This import thing is a bit strange.

An Ozzie friend ordered his Morgan +8 direct from Morgan, checked in a couple of times during it's build. He took delivery from the factory & had a months European holiday in it before shipping it to Oz. It is considered a local car.

I think the real problem is the hot Jap imports, & the people who often drive them. There are at least 4 companies selling these things in the southern suburbs of Brisbane. It is usually these cars that are giving trouble with hooning, & road racing, often being confiscated when caught. The insurance companies have probably had too much trouble with these, so avoid all imports.

any chance of someone listing the insurers who will cover UK imported cars?

I am currently driving 2 of my 3 imports on CTP ( I think that is compulsory third party insurance ) which I am sure covers very little other than 3rd party individuals.
Still waiting to pick up Motorhome, which is awaiting compliance plates.

From what I have been told & read on PH here we have to choose from;

1. Shannons
2. Just Car
3. Lloyds ( via a broker ) any recommendations in QLD?

More options please if available.

Thanks

Note CTP covers only personal injury - hit someone's house and you're paying that bill yourself!!!

Try All Action Insurance Consultants 07 5446 7620. They can go to Lloyds if it makes sense to do so. And I'd sort something sharpish if I were you, driving around uninsured isn't the best idea.

Just got a shock ! My insurance company wher I have a Mercedes and a Jaguar insured refused to insure my new car a 1984 Ferrari 308 GTS . So I went to Shannons who not only were happy to insure the car but couldn't believe the low premium. They only insure on agreed value which was $70,000 and the premium was an unbelievably low $595 !I'm selling the Mercedes a 2003 SLK 320 in top condition for $25000......any takers ?It cost me $40,000 less than a year ago.

Colin, there are quite a few F-Car owners down in Victoria (many of them active on Ferrarichat). When I lived in Sydney, there were a few like minded souls who would meet up for Sunday morning drives in everything from a 348 Challenge, E-type, 968 and Subaru SVX (me!)....almost a precursor to the Sunday Service of Pistonheads!

Anyways, keep up informed of when you get it and I will see if some I knew down in Victoria way now are still around and pass on their contact details.

Ah....

I recall that a lot of the "good stuff" ended up in Victoria (McLaren F1, an F40, the silver XJ220 that was up and down the east coast for sale for around a year and a yellow Zonda roadster too but may be wrong on the last point.

Can't wait to see photos (grey over red? nice!)
