Just checking in.

Hope everyone had a good Christmas and New Year, and haven't been buggered about with sudden Covid closures. We managed to get to the Sunshine Coast over Christmas and got back to Vic before it all went to st again. I'm glad we didn't stay for New Year!

I've restarted looking for a new job and I'm not enjoying it. I'm being driven mental by company portals that ask you to upload your resume to autofill the form and then butcher it so it makes no sense meaning you have to manually input it all to make sure it is correct furious

Hey, nice to see a bit of activity on here.

Glad you're well.

Same here, my current contract is up in April so started looking for next role. Feel the same as you, it's infuriating.

Same with recruiters being next to useless, or have 2 yrs experience in my industry telling me with 22 yrs the lay of the land, especially annoying given I am a recruiting manager for my companies.

It's such an annoying process.

I’m great. I broke my neck in October and spent the last 11 weeks in a neck and thoracic brace. On the way back from a hospital visit I decided to have a drink at the Avalon RSL that fateful day, so spent Xmas and NY in isolation/lockdown.

But now I’m free, not disabled and having not ridden or driven at all or even walked much for months I can’t tell you how amazing life feels, being set free and getting around, riding my bike, walking around in the thankfully not too punishing summer we’re having, it’s fantastic.

Well, stuff like this doesn’t happen to me on the way back from the pub or riding the bike. No, I was at home on my chin-up bar, which came off the wall. So innocuous you might think...

Yeah glad you're ok, it's always the weird stuff that gets people out of the blue.

Jeez - glad you're okay.

I know what you mean about the summer - I went to Bunnings last weekend and when I started the car the heated seats came on automatically because it was so cold!

Damn! Only yesterday I was talking to my partner about getting one of those chin up bars that fit into a door frame... second thoughts now!

Well I'm still about. Changed jobs in Nov due to sh*t management. Hence the lack of posting here.

Gone back contracting, so 30% pay hike and 95% less bullsh*t.

At the end of pre-start on my house, just bought a dog, had my first vaccine jab (due to work).

I too have job news - I start a new one tomorrow after 4 months of doing next to nothing. I didn’t get all the planned DIY projects completed mainly because I kept doing a “I’ve got plenty of time so I’ll do it tomorrow.” and then got offered an immediate start!

It comes with a car so now I need to get shot of the Calais. I’m considering just going to Sell My Car (which is actually Mannheim) just to get rid of it without any hassle.

Congrats both. Good time to sell a car too. I was looking at carsales for values of mine the other day, the cheapest was way more than I paid 6 years ago or so.

ETA tried to put a deposit down on a GR Yaris for Q4 delivery but got totally messed around by the dealer, which left a bad taste in my mouth and gave me time to reconsider. May still do, but I’m indecisive.

You’re conscious that it could come off the wall, but you envisage a stagger back and a bit of a stumble. It doesn’t happen like that, or at least it didn’t with me. It’s so fast, I was still holding the bar to my chest when I landed. I’ve subsequently heard you should cross your ankles to keep the weight low, but I didn’t, I was over 2m up in a C shape and landed right on my C7 which fractured in 2 places, inside and outside. It was very close to quadriplegia. I’m extremely lucky.

Jeez dude!!! I keep telling people exercise is bad for you.
Seriously, hope you’re on the mend and get out on some decent roads soon

Moan moan moan.

I arranged to take 6 weeks leave, part of the plan was to go on a road trip & visit mates in Queensland.

Spent the first 2 weeks in lockdown (Melbourne), and now it's over, I don't want to drive to Qld in case I get stuck going through NSW.

On the other hand, I finally got around to rebuilding the MR2's rear suspension smile.
Now I just have to refurb the wheels before fitting new rubber.

Next up - service the boat & trailer.

I’m off to QLD mid next week. We’re classed as country so up until they changed the rules it meant we could still go as long as I didn’t go to the office or the closest Bunnings as they are in Greater Melbourne!

Oh, or use the Long Term car park shuttle bus because that counted as public transport...unlike a full plane which obviously is much lower risk!

Where are you located Jader? I'm susprised some of my colleagues have been classed as living in 'Regional Vic' despite apparently living quite close to the city.

Macedon Ranges. We’re closer to the city than some bits that are classed as Greater Melbourne.

Nice area - driven through a couple of times on the way to Bendigo but not explored it.
