Interesting point. I should have realised an Eclat/Excel of that generation would have been around the peak of Toyota cooperation. IMO it's a great shame GM arrived on the scene causing temporary interruption of the relationship with Toyota. I'd have been very happy to see Lotus secure under Toyota ownership. (Similarly I always felt the best outcome for BL would have been full ownership by Honda, but they got kicked in the nuts as well.)

Mark, have you a video of the Elan in action?
Thanks for Q.
Last time out I did a load of data logging .. amps, volts, kW Speed etc. But no video ... sorry, Then #lockdown. So only video is when it was 1st on the road .. a clip on insta. Will be back and will either get wife to press the right button or gopro. In the meantime it's fixes and improvements.

Exige is good fun (albeit a bit less stable) with the roof off

Ohh! Yours was looking absolutely lovely too, always brilliant to see one on the road. They're so small! And I am absolutely sure which car I'd rather be in on a day like today.

You caught me coming back from going slightly ffurther than is strictly necessary, I've found that by doing my shopping in Richmond and not Kingston I can get the engine more or less up to temperature. That, and y'know, it helps me stay sane biggrin

Here to cheer you up are two Lotuses that I used to own - a 1973 Elan Plus 2 S 130/5, and a 1990 Excel SE, plus my Missus. The location is Ston Easton, a quite pleasant hotel near Bath.

This 1972 Europa Twin Cam is now in Australia, but here it is when I owned it in 2012.

I've always absolutely loved Europa twin-cams, especially in JPS although yellow runs it a close second. I've never managed to fall in love with the earlier cars with the higher back end.

In my time it was nightmare trying to find a good Europa and I was very happy to end up in an S3 Esprit instead. Great cars.

and my dearly departed +2S at the top of Kirkstone pass on it's first run out after a 7 year restoration - sadly it went away to its new owner last August after 11 years - I rebuilt that car from scratch and really miss it
