You'll ideally need a 2000E gearbox and appropriate bellhousing

No you wont have to change the gear box, but as said a 200oe box would be nice, at the moment on my garage floor I have a Big valve twin cam and gear box from my Elan, a 1700 Super Sprint Cross flow with a straight cut gear box from my caterham, and a few 1300 escort boxes just for the gear box case. I need to swap the straight cut gears in to the escort case, as the current case is broke, they all interchange perfectly as far as the block, gear box bell housing goes, gear box ratios are different.
You will need to look at exhaust as the twin cam Lotus engine, is 'cross flow' configuration so your exhast on a MK 1 will be on wrong side

The gearboxes mentioned will all mate up with the twin cam but you will need a different length propshaft between single and three rail boxes.

May need to faff about a bit changing clutch operation between cable and hydraulic as well.
