Decasol Orange / Vinle / Leather / Carpet Cleaner
Discussion
An Orange liquid that could be used neat or diluted , This stuff was superb for interior valeting and the best product by far for cleaning Vinle door cards , centre consoles , sun visors , leather , carpets etc etc , but i have now run out and the Rep i contacted was far less than helpfull . For some reason they dont make it anymore for the uk , so New Old stock is probably my only hope . Halfords and many accessory shops used to sell it . For years it was in a glass bottle then a plastic bottle .
Anyone know where I can get any ?

Thanks mph, yes it was a great product. I will try to contact the makers and see what they think .
In the mid 80s I bought my first Capri Mk3 a Venetian Red 3000S , which was had a very grubby interior , particularly the red check Recaros . It took a couple of days graft but Decasol transformed the inside of that car , I just couldn't believe it.
I sold that S soon after as I just couldn't live with the ruddy glass sunroof and the fact that the MK3 just wasn't a patch on my previous MK1 3 Litre cars .
The first buyer bought that car because of it's superb interior.

Yes, I cleaned my fair share of car interiors with Decosol, a pleasant smelling orangey liquid of watery gloopy consistency often purchased at the local Motor Factors (usually a cluttered little shop fronted by a man in a Brown store coat) you would point at it on a shelf and he would serve you, (remember that?)
It was very good and I can only imagine that it's been discontinued due to some dodgy carcinogenic ingredient?

No it wasn't anything like that. The reason I remember it so well was because it was a fantastic product. If I recall correctly it came in a wide-necked glass bottle.
The consistency was rather "snotty" for want of a better word. Applied with a nail brush to vinyl or leather panels it was really effective.
Ha, nice one Steve Zodiac !
My first intro to Decasol was at the age of 16 in 1977 at Loughton College on a C and G Motor Mechanics course . The College workshop had a few old cars , Inc a Vanden Plas 4 Litre R , a skeleton Rover 2000 and a very early Maroon coloured Mini. On my first day there , Mr Morish our Tutor ( what a great guy he was ) gave me a bottle of Decasol and told me to clean the seats in the Mini. I just couldn't believe how well that Gloopy Orange stuff worked !
In the late 80s I worked in Walthamstow as the Sth East Rep for a now sadly no more / great company called " LE Chapman Engineers " . ( Anyone remember them ? ) Chapmans had been started by a real go getting character called Laurence and his wife Steff. Laurence was trajically killed in his Merc sports on i beleive the M1 when it rolled over sometime in the mid 80s .
We were the Main Distributors for Monroe Shocks and also our own range of recon Struts , steering racks, lever arm shocks , discs , pads etc. I used to call on many of the Old School Car Accessory shops, Motor Factors etc etc . Some of the stock that was sitting out the back of some of these places was just amazing . I can recall seeing glass bottle after glass bottle of Decasol on the shelves.

My God, my parents had wallpaper like that in the kitchen when I was about five!
I remember Decasol well; my Grandfather was very keen on it, so it must have been laced with dodgy chemicals. I used it on my dad's cars when I was in my teens in the late 'eighties. It was excellent stuff.

I remember helping my Mum clean our 'new' Vauxhall Viva one school holiday with this stuff back in the 70s. It was an ex smoker's car so we cleaned the headlining and were surprised to find it was off white rather than beige.
Even after they were cleaned the vinyl seats were still sticky on hot days though...

Decosol who manufactured the product were bought over about 4 years ago.
The new owners were a huge chemical company who were only interesed in the Decosol Screenwash Range (Very good product)They de-listed most of the Decosol Range which also contained another old favorite Decosol Screenwash Powder (Previously Alexander Clearalex).Any body remember that old product?
