Taken last year waiting for a ferry - my large GT car looking like a scale model between a Honda invalid carriage and a gigantic Chelsea tractor.
Even 'back in the day' those were only large on the outside. I went through a period of getting hand-me-down company cars from my boss, who changed his cars on a whim.
I had a 4.0 XJS for a couple of months (before I got his Mercedes SL500) when I was about 23, and it was lovely, but a tad cramped, I seem to recall.

They are quite snug on the inside. I've yet to master the art of thanking another driver for letting me out without hitting the windscreen. As it happens, people seem to love the old Jag so the inside of my glass needs fingerprints cleaned off rather frequently I went through a period of getting hand-me-down company cars from my boss, who changed his cars on a whim.

I think this is a good shot to show that the dimensions alone don't tell the full story.Even if the length and width are similar (as suggested above) the modern car has so much extra metal below the window line, and chunky pillars, it seems twice the size.
Interestingly, according to the Google a 131 and a modern 595 both weight similar amounts, around 1000-1100kgs.
