The FIAT 500 is a funny one, size wise, they are fairly wide (my brother had a 500 and a SAAB 9-5 estate at one time, and they both look the same width at a glance) but very short.

They're tall for their size too, about 1.5m high and just over 1.6m wide. The Felipe Massa picture is a fun one, he's 1.66m tall (5ft5)

But this isn't the 'Ex F1 drivers dwarfed by small hatchbacks' thread hehe

Friend sent me this picture of his Honda N360 in the work car park this week.

So, effectively we have a 4 seater Japanese family car of the 1960s next to a 4 seater Japanese family car of the 2020s!

Not really, what you have their is a tiny cramped 4 seater car with no real comforts or performance, next to a 5 seater car with lots of comforts tech and performance, oh and a useable boot.

The old car is smaller but it's smaller for lots of reasons.

Have you noticed how when these pictures are taken it's always with the old car behind to make it seem even smaller than it really is?

And the Tiguan is smaller than both of them.

The difference actually doesn't look as much in the photos.

Not really dwarfed, I think it shows the newer 3 to be perhaps not quite as gargantuan as we might assume. Of course width might show something more substantial (said the actress…) and I’ve not looked at any actual facts - just all subjective. I do know from looking to buy one many years ago that those E30 cabs are really quite small inside…

Watching Harry's Garage - his Countach 50th anniversary tour. The compare and contrast between his 1987 QV and the first production Countach was interesting. The two cars have very different roof heights.

But of course for this thread here's the comparison with the Revuelto

I was quite surprised today sitting the Evo next to the GR Yaris. The Yaris actually dwarfed the Evo!

Why do people always shoot the picture from that angle to make the newer car look bigger? Or have I just answered my own question?

Its indeed bigger then you think, I was enthousiast when they came out and saw the pictures online and the stories, so went to a dealer nearby which had a new one in the showroom to take a look, so I could feel if it was something for me.

stepped in the showroom and thought, wow its high and so on, and nope, did not got the, I want to buy a new one, maybe over some years a in between car when prices drop under say 10k euro and I need a car to drive (in between car) till I find my next one if that comes up again.

if it had the size of say a Peugeot 205 GTI then it would have the charmes, but it has not sadly.

How much smaller than a Yaris did you think it would be?

You’d never get the car they’ve produced in a car the size of a 205 GTI, not with today’s regs. The wheel base and the 4 wheel drive system dictates the floor pan size, the height has actually been reduced by 40mm with a roof chop. The overall package is a symptom of today’s requirements, but when compared to a the car from 26 years ago, it shows how much bigger those requirements have made things.

I know which one out of the two i’d feel confident walking away from in the event of an accident. Toyota also did a superb job of producing the car at the weight they achieved. By today’s standards for its size, it’s lightweight.

Did you actually test drive one?

I never saw or looked at a normal Yaris, but I new just like say the old vs new mini or old Fiat 500 vs new Fiat 500 those normal Yaris would also be 'high'

I was hoping to see a cute fat GR Yaris but not that high, for me it should at least be 10-15 or even 20cm lower to be cute loveable and want it...
