Took the 911 to the office the other day. Just shows that the 'small' Porsche Cayman is bigger than the old 'big' 911!

That's a good comparison picture
Good defensive parking from both owners too.

In my youth my dad had Ford Cortina's as some of his company cars, a Mk IV followed by a Mk V. In the day, late 70's through to mid 80's, the Cortina was one of the bigger cars out there. Until recently I had a colleague who used an old MKIV Cortina saloon as his daily driver. Even parked next to a Fiesta it looked a bit small now.

The most noticeable to me is the old MK2 Jaguar. I always considered these as large until I saw one a few months ago amongst the modern stuff.

Sorry I couldn't get a better shot, the woman with the MX5 looked a bit put out at me taking photos. Anyway, here is the famously oversized, often criticised for it's bulk XJS parked next to that famously minimalist sports car the MX5.

Photo doesn't show the extra metre of length at the front of the XJS mind you.

The XJS looks bigger in every dimension than the mx5. Am I missing something?

Yep, the XJS is clearly bigger, but not by much, and it's nowhere near as bulbous. It's the fact that a supposedly very small roadster is now comparable to a grand tourer that was relentlessly criticised for it's size that I found amusing.

Indeed, I can see your point. The MX5 was originally a small nimble roadster and is now comparable in size to the XJS.

In defence of the MX5 it is almost a full metre shorter than the XJS. In defence of the XJS the long bonnet looks awesome and it has a V12.

Isn't that mx5 actually on a rx8 floorpan; new one is much smaller

No picture but I remember when my E36 Coupe was parked up next to a new Suzuki Swift and although the 36 was a bit longer, it definitely looked tiny by comparison. In its time the 36 was definitely one of the largest in its class.

I guess this doesn't really count, but it is a Friday and I liked the picture:

Good spot - I do like a nice Indy cloud9

Described by the road testers of the day as a proper, large grand tourer!

And what does my new local Sainsbury's do, make the car parking spaces even smaller!

One of the moderns is a Micra! Which looks hefty next to BMW 3 Series.
