Can one of you expand on what this is? Sounds intriguing. Is it a DOHC set up on a RV8 block?
I would think it's a Ford 4.6 V8 in its entirety.

Ah ok. Very similar to the early AJ V8s then, which fit reasonably well. You needed to fanny about with the sump to try and get it low enough and if you wanted the SC then you needed to cut the bulkhead.

To be honest, I think the LS suits it better, much smaller and retains the push rod waffle that allows you to still pretend you’re a gentleman redneck.

Afternoon peeps,

Does anyone know of anywhere that will restore an upper tailgate?

Mine is shot but I have scruffy but not too f****d one coming from ebay, I will either do my best or if there is a 'go to' place then I'm all ears...

Thanks
Once they’ve started to go, most people don’t bother and replace them with an Aluminium one...

The steel frame tends to rot from the inside out, so by the time you notice it’s too late.

If you have an ok one that’s just scruffy, then most good body shops will be able to do it for you.
Replaced the frame of mine with the ally frame kit from Famous Four some years ago. Not that difficult - just be careful when you remove the old frame from the glass, best done in bits so don't go mad with your chosen metal cutting tool.

And tape up the heated screen connection point firmly. If you knock that off it’s a right bugger.

Morning all...

Had a mammoth trek yesterday out to deepest darkest Kent (near Margate) to a chap (classicLSE.com) who seemed to be the only person in the country with an original bonnet lining in stock in decent condition. Used, but decent.

He said something that just couldn't seem possible.... He seemed to think there's only 15 soft-dash LSE's left. He's got three there, and is going to cannibalise one to make two good ones.

Not sure where he got his number from, just didn't seem realistic to be honest.

Anyway, bonnet lining is another thing ticked off the list.

My first reaction is that that seems unlikely. If he has 3, Kingsley have at least 2 and probably a few more, there seem to be a couple on car and classic. That's half of the "15".
Might be true I suppose and they do like to rust!
Didi you pick up a liner for the newer type of bonnet? I'm still looking for one as mine has clearly suffered the underbonnet detonation of the air box in the past!

It does seem very unlikely but it’s not like the LSE was tremendously popular and the soft dash was only in production a short time. I guess it’s possible the number left could be very low and that you’re not just a victim of the Planet Thanet alternate reality.

Cheers folks, thought it seemed very unlikely... He has three, plus mine, plus one on eBay currently, plus a couple at Kingsley as you say... It can't be that easy to account for half of the cars in existence.

Yes, got a liner for a late model... Had literally tried every supplier and called no joy - so was worth the trip to Margate to collect.

Ok, so tried one from a running car and it made no difference. Think next stop is ECU. It doesnt look that easy to get out.....

Subject of much discussion on various LR - and other - forums!.
The general opinion is that the later 5AM is interchangable with the 3AM but not the other way round.
Thanks! I still haven’t managed to find amother one to try but a mate has offered to lend me his this weekend. Fingers crossed!
They take about one minute to remove and the best way to check is to borrow one from a car that’s running well. You can sit on eBay for months soaking up supply and never knowing whether any of them actually work.

Plus I'm pretty sure there's another on eBay at present.

Edit: Ha - make that at least 4!

Edit 2: changed my search, now there are 7. Are we up to the full 15 yet?

Thanks chaps, much appreciated, I'll see what state my ebay purchase is in and take it from there. The aluminium kit is probably the right thing to do, at least I'll have a spare to play with!

Chaps, help!

I'm at work and my Classic won't start. It spins happily, with a good battery but just won't fire. I can smell petrol outside, but I can't hear the fuel pump priming as it normally does when you put the ignition on. Correction - I heard it once, but only once. I've wiggled the fuel pump relays under the seat but it's not made any difference. Anything else I can try whilst I'm waiting for the RAC?

EFI Auto? Check the connector under the foot rest?

I spent hours at Bedford Autodrome trying to get one to start. Everything seemed to point to the fuel pump but all the usual checks found no issue. Phoned the old man out of boredom for a chat and he pointed out that if you don’t use the foot rest then your foot is on a connector in that corner and you can work it loose to deliver the symptoms of a packed in fuel pump. I was heading back to London one minute later.

I think the fuel pump only primes once, for a few seconds max. Although you can smell petrol, maybe the rail is still under pressure so the pump isn't firing again.

You're better at this than me anyway! Trying to think of the obvious since I guess you drove it earlier today? MAF connector?

Thanks Cappo. I did wonder if that's why I couldn't hear the pump - because it was already primed.

I drove it this morning and it seemed OK. A bit lumpy on idle perhaps, but it was cold and damp so I didn't think much about it. I haven't got any tools with me (foolishly).
