The house these are parked in front of is completely overgrown with weeds and algae. The plot occupies a commanding position on a Bristol city hillside and is probably worth serious money, but the house itself must be a wreck inside.

What are these rusted out shells?

Was the idea to free up space in the boot, or were they originally sold without a spare anyway (seems unlikely for that era tbh)?
Think the rover 3500 had optional Dunlop Denovo run flats as an option in the 70’s, not sure they were ever standard or still had a spare?
Think the Mini also had them available for a short while.

Offering the boot mount kit was just a response to customer complaints about the boot size with the spare inside, it's not very big.

Yes, Denovo, only available with pas, was optional (never standard) on the 3500/S from, IIRC, my1974 for a couple of years, but withdrawn after poor sales, complaints of road noise, high wear rate and some issues with repair locations. Cars so equipped did not have spare wheels and had a carpeted boot, rather than the usual rubber covering, although many cars were later swapped back to standard wheels/tyres and spare wheel, at Rover's expense. I'm fairly sure they were the first car offered with Denovo.

1275GT also available with them.

The wife of a couple I knew used to have one, a 90 I think. They were retired and used to spend the winters somewhere tropical. While they were away I used to give their classic cars a runout every now and then to keep them active. The Auntie Rover was pretty awful to drive. Very much a 1950s experience and yes very slow.

Depends on the model. The Land Rover engined 80 is a bit of a poor show, but the 110 I drove a few years back was actually a nice drive. Plenty of power (they were listed as over 120hp) and torque, overdrive box, decent disc brakes etc. It was on crossplies so handling wasn't fantastic, but it was decent enough and certainly better than the A99 Westminster I drove around the same time (these were already "classics" when I drove them, I'm not old enough to have driven them new). At least when these rot there's a chassis underneath to hold it together unlike a P5......

A friend of mine's dad had one (I think a 95) and someone in an Anglia 105E had brake fail on a side road and hit his Rover in the side. The front of the Anglia was a wreck, his Rover had a small mark which had to be buffed out.

There used to be one which raced at the Goodwood Revival, albeit at the back of the field.

Good Lord are those still there? I used to drive past this house in my GT6 so that’s at least 30 years ago. Thinking about it, they were there well before then. Amazed the place has not been done up yet but it’s a funny part of town. Although the whole city has gone peculiar now.

Yertis, this is the road descending into St. Pauls.

Have you noticed the 'Nice One.' graffiti that has appeared at certain key locations around the city?

I dray for Arbor Ales, one thing I really enjoy about the job aside from the massive amounts of free beer is the chance to explore the city properly. PM me if you want a box or two of beer.
