Given the crazy money "Splitties" fetch or fetched, surely one of the more valuable heaps on this thread.

There is another photo of this bus in use, but the owner of the photo is threatening anyone who posts it.
How, why ? What was it being used for ?

The mum of one of our friends had one back in the 70s. She took 3 of us all out for a day trip one summer holiday. The journey included one of those “big dipper” type sections of road. She had given us a bag of mint imperials to eat and we lobbed them out of the back of the Herald and watched them cascade down the road behind us. Funny how some 50 year old memories stay with you.

You see how children's entertainment has changed, now they just sit with their heads buried in their phones.

Decent steer back in the day. I had one as a loaner between co cars - 2.0 SRI. With firmer suspension and sporty seats, they were a very pleasant. Well put together as well. Probably a better can than the pov spec BMW 3 series I had ordered but what's a thrusting 20 something exec expected to do!
Yea they weren't bad, my dad was a fan. He had a V6 like the one pictured then a newer shape with the 3.2.
He thought it was the fastest thing in the world.

I don't know but will type some words at random: roadworthy, MOT exemption, not, should be.

No nasturtiums to see here...

I'm pretty sure I know this car. It was owned from new until at least 1989 by an old couple in a village called Merton, north Oxfordshire and I used to do some work on it. She had this, he had a 1970 Triumph 2000 and he had retired around that time from Triumph at Canley. Both cars had Warwickshire registrations.
The 2000 was a good old bus. Once, I had to press the ring gear back onto the flywheel and give it a couple of babs of mig weld as it was coming adrift, gradually eased off by the starter motor. biggrin

You'll find the Herald hasn't done many miles.

I spent a year in a V6 auto estate, got it new for a very good price. The engine was lovely, worked brilliantly with a new baby, the only issue was the auto box was dopey, wouldn't kickdown properly. Moved it on for what I paid though, so all good.

Well this is odd - this is owned by my old next door neighbour and was until a few month’s back immaculate and in daily use. He has just had a new baby - I wonder if the two are connected…

I bet his hair has gone grey and he will lose the skin off his knuckles when he buys a tiny pushchair which might just fit the 928.

I took a pic from that exact spot a few weeks ago but haven't got around to uploading it. I just looked the spot up on Google maps and it wasn't there in Sept last year. Such a shame, the 928 is such a cool car

He paid strong money about 7/8 years ago and absolutely adored it - in fact the last time I spoke to him was to let him know he was about to get a ticket on it outside the Maynard and it was gleaming as always. Very strange - not taxed since July last year.

Are some of these cars stranded because the owners have to pay £12 to take them off the drive?

Feb 2023:

so it is - his 968 went the same way - last year of ownership saw the windscreen held in by gaffer tape

the 928 shortly after purchase with his son's 924 lurking in the background

Funnily you say that, almost all the people in my degree at uni had 316/318 BMWs, but mate had a Vectra and I had an Mondeo ST24 which were both infinitely more interesting.

As for the person who asked for more info, don't know a lot. It's been in that driveway the whole time I've lived in the area (5 years), never moved and the house (although on a opulent road) also looks like the car, dilapidated and everything overgrown.

I used to have a Herald that colour. It was 20% steel and 80% Isopon P38.
