This Cav was last taxed 21 years ago.

You know that's a Vectra, right? Or "ctra" as its badge says.

I had one like that once: same colour but a 2.5 V6 SRi. It was quick and smooth, but suffered the worst understeer of any car I've owned.

You’re right Turbs, it’s a Vectra, of course! Haha, midnight post, tired eyes and I didn’t even look …

My old neighbour had a black SRi V6 back in the day. I can remember his shock when it failed it's MOT on the passenger side headlamp bulb. He rather recklessly said "just do it" and got quite a shock as it seems half the engine bay had to come out to access it!

Very much so. I found it a very atmospheric and thought provoking experience.

It certainly is, very sad.
It was a good choice to preserve the town and build a new one down the road.

I ve seen this Ensign before and put it on PH, but not in this thread. It s in here now as it s no longer taxed which is a shame, and judging from the look of it, it s another car that s been standing for a bit.

It doesn't need an MOT and tax costs nothing so I wonder why you'd let it expire?

I understand that a number of people think £0 tax means you don't have to tax your car.

Massive difference between the Cavalier which by the mid 90’s was hopelessly outdated and the refined Vectra. I had an early 2.0 CDX that was a great cruiser, although I’ll admit wasn’t the last word in handling.
Its replacement an E36 325i, handled better was faster, but less refined with a poorer quality interior.

You're right Rob - the interior was a nice place to be. The 2.5 V6 really came alive when I took it to France, where it could cruise at very high speeds all day long. It just didn't like corners that much.

Mine had been owned by a DJ in Ibiza. He wanted a LHD car so traded it for an Impreza Turbo that I'd imported from the Netherlands.

I had a boggo 1.8 L as an interim for a few months until my E36 3 series company car turned up. It was designed exactly for what it would be used for - schlepping up and down the motorway - it was the IDEAL reps car, long legged, smooth, roomy, relaxing. It wasn't so good on the twisty bits - the Mondeo, Passat, Primera were so much btetter to drive.

I can't see that without hearing the opening bars of 'The World at War'.
We were nearby about 10 years ago and I suggested to my wife we visit and she said that she didn't want to as it would be overwhelming.

The French do some things very well, the preservation of Oradour sur Glane is one of those decisions.

Mk2 Vauxhall Astra Estate. Joyriding into the woods and then setting the car alight is a tad nineties; wonder if that thing's been there since then?

I would agree with you, but for one thing. Unless the image has been reversed by the OP, the Astra's fuel filler is on the driver's side.

Behind the bracken in the pic, you can see the aperture on the nearside.

That was my first thought but the hole for the wiper spindle is in the wrong place the car in the picture also appears to have had some sort of (missing) panel across the tailgate.

Five stud/bolt wheels though: Astra was four.
