420SEC, blue/black metallic with the rare velour rather than leather upholstery. Must have been some terminal bork back in the day, and 20 years left in the rain can't have done it a great deal of good. The corner of the rear window where it meets the rear wing isn't looking too clever

The mechanicals of those are relatively simple and bombproof; could be electrical gremlins, that era E class did have engine loom problems due to insulation breakdown.

Delamination is a very common problem with 80s and 90s Mercedes.

I live around the corner from the Merc and I've never seen it being washed. They are definitely car people - the SEC shares a drive with a 996 Turbo Cab, a W216 CL500 Merc and a C32 AMG estate.

The degradable loom was an easy fix. I bought a new one for £500 from the dealer, and it took less than half an hour to install.

Noticed what a I think is a very knackered Capri MK2 (?) at the rear of a house on Gippeswyk Road, opposite Ipswich station earlier today.

Couldn't get a pic as there was a train in the way, but screenshot via Google below, although it's now facing the opposite direction and is in worse condition:

Not actual cars left on streets but there used to be a Jaguar specialist (KWE) on the Greenham Business Park; they had old XJ-Ss parked all over the place in various carparks in differing states of dilapidation, then one day I went there and it was all gone - I wonder where they went?

Precise parking. The MOT history shows it having been tested as recently as 2023, with an increasing odometer reading each year. Interestingly, various advisories have come and gone, so someone does appear to be looking after it.

KWE went into voluntary liquidation a good two years ago,l when he retired, I wonder if those cars were stock, customer cars, work in progress or what. That street view is quite something though, I think the XJS and it's derivatives might be my favourite cars of all time.

Has any one platform covered so many great options? Sixes of naturally aspirated or supercharged varieties in 3.2, 3.6, or 4.0 capacities, two totally different V12s of 5.3, 5.9, and 6.0 litres capacity, at least 5 different models of automatic gearbox and three manual and that's before you start considering all the mad st TWR/Jaguarsport, Lister, or Aston Martin Works Service could do for you. You even get to chose if you'd like your rear brakes on the inside or outside!

One of my favourite cars. I'll have to buy one eventually. Even a 380/420 would do.
