Sold the 635 in September 2014 to another mad fella from Poland when the MoT fail sheet turned out to be longer than my arm.
Have been without a "classic" until relatively recently - bought a 1988 Citroën CX GTi Auto; bringing it home next weekend. That should add a few miles to the 79,000 that its six previous owners have managed to put on it in 29 years.
Did the the MoT fail sheet include the words 'corrosion' and 'excessive'? Have been without a "classic" until relatively recently - bought a 1988 Citroën CX GTi Auto; bringing it home next weekend. They were great cars but you need to know when to give up. I like the old CX - I favour an earlier stainless bumper Prestige with the buttoned leather.
You need to join the forum 'autoste'. You will fit in perfectly! I go on now and then - some very clever and interesting guys on there with the weirdest of cars. Talbot Tagoras are flavour of the month.

It took me 18 years to give up. And yes, the word "corrosion" featured prominently. It failed on the state of the rear wheel arches which were deemed borderline dangerous. Thing is, it was a different MoT inspector who failed it; my usual inspector knew the 635 inside out and would still have passed it....and I might still be driving it today. They were great cars but you need to know when to give up.

Good luck in finding one if going for it. All the good surviving RHD Prestiges (and there aren't many) are in the hands of owners who won't be letting go. The only Prestige I've seen for sale recently is Franklin Rugg's metallic green 1983 car (formerly "FLB 118Y") .....and that currently lives in Hong Kong on HK plates; God only knows why he took it out there.iSore said:

Might see you there, so. I vaguely remember Tagoras; are there not fewer than 10 running ones left?Edited by Horsetan on Sunday 15th October 20:57

A couple of nice ones here if you have deep pockets...https://suchen.mobile.de/fahrzeuge/search.html?dam...

It seems to be mainly the German and Dutch CX enthusiasts (and dealers) who are driving the values upwards. UK-market CXs are still relatively cheap by their standards.richardgrace75 said:
Thanks for all the help with the Simca. It looks really solid. I will try and enquire. It's sat alone in a field, so not sure who to ask about it. I'll try though. Only a few feet away is what I assume is a Vitesse, going by the shape of the wings. Doors appear to be slightly knackered. Will also ask about this... You never know!
Took the opportunity to have a mooch at this whilst in Porches - Algarve - last week. The cover is deceptive, car is a Herald 1200 but I did get to meet the charming lady owner who said she had owned it since about 1995 and it now sits waiting for her son to take an interest and restore it.
Pretty far gone for a sunny climate car but definately restorable with some chassis work. Doesn't help that it is not a factory convertible but a saloon being run with the roof unbolted.
Simca needs less work but I'm not sure whether it would be economically viable. Certainly rare but are they desirable or valuable?

Great you go to meet the owner! Hope the son does take an interest before it's too late. I drove past the other day again and gave it a quick glance. Does she also own the Simca? The cover is deceptive, car is a Herald 1200 but I did get to meet the charming lady owner who said she had owned it since about 1995 and it now sits waiting for her son to take an interest and restore it.

Looks like this one is being rescued, looked a right state from the side, the bottom 1/4 of the doors was almost non existent.
Over the last year or so there have been quite a few LHD Mk1 Escorts on the UK market, most have come over from Malta. I wonder how many will become Mexico or RS replicas...P5BNij said:

The reversing light on the left hand side would indicate it has been adapted for a RHD market, however, the reg looks like a period French plate, "76" being Seine-Maritime in Normandy.sim16v said:
This 540 is just starting to deteriorate.
Was parked up, MOT ran out, then sorned, then no insurance.
I've left a couple of notes but not had any replies, will start knocking on doors when I get a chance.
540i too! Where is it? I'd love to have that... as if three money-pit E39s isn't enough...Was parked up, MOT ran out, then sorned, then no insurance.
