Hi all,

Is there a knack to using the battery switch in the vantage? I pressed it in my Vantage- it makes a clicking noise, but nothing seemed to happen (interior light stayed on).

Thanks,
Nick

The one behind the drivers seat?
Car won't start if you've pressed it correctly

If you mean e one in the boot next to the puncture kit, then mine doesn't appear to do anything either!

I'd be interested to hear what it should do, or what it should leave on.

It's in the boot on mine- under the 12v socket. I believe it changed on the 2007 model from the original design.

It's not a rocket switch, just a push-type one (similar to the heated screen button). It makes a clicking noise somewhere else in the car but nothing else.

Does it not just turn off non essential items to save power so things like central locking int lights etc will still work

The manual suggests that it shuts down everything except:

- Vehicle access, via the remote transmitter
- Engine immobiliser
- Alarm functions
- Door window memory
- Clock

Which allows the vehicle to remain unused for up to 70 days (31 days with a tracker).

This would be really useful, but the button doesn't seem to work as the interior lights stay on.

Just a note on the battery disconnect. A few weeks ago I used it as I was going away for 2 weeks, when I returned, I pressed the reset button behind the drivers seat and it clicked but as soon as I released it, it went back to how it was. It took me a while to figure everything out but I managed to get it started by holding the reset switch down at the same time. The car would run off of the alternator, so I just held down the reset button until it held the relay closed. Never had a problem since, but it was rather disconcerting whilst it was happening and I would imagine it would cost a fair bit if I had got someone to fix it as it showed up every error message under the sun!

When I use mine (in the boot, next to the fuse box) it does kill a lot of electrical functions including the ability to start the car. I did it soon after buying it, just as an experiment really.

What I didn't realise was that it wasn't a toggle switch - and I was unaware of the switch behind the drivers seat to re-enable everything. So found that - after disabling everything - I couldn't start the car again. And also discovered that one of the functions it disables is.... the electrical switch to open the glove compartment - where my owners manual was.

Took some frantic searching online to figure out how to get my car started again - not good since I'd actually been playing around with it during my lunch hour at work.

Hi davek_964
What year is your car?
I have a 2006 and seem to have no electrics at all, I know it is not the battery.

I had a 2006, the battery reset is behind the drivers serat low down, right hand side IIRC. It's difficult to find in the carpet and is a rubberised push button.

So, I am a bit confused.

Is this switch useful if you leave the car parked for some time?

Or is it causing more problems than benefits?

How to restore normal functionalities once pressed?

It's more trouble than it's worth. Lost settings can be a pain to reinstate.

Hi. I have 2006 Vantage pretty much from new. I have used the cutout regularly and have never had a problem with re start. Mine doesn't lose its settings, cant guarantee that's universal but never had a problem. The CD player sounds like it's having a hissy fit as it resets but thats it!

Stupid question here (and I will consult my manual) but does my 2015MY 4.7 V8V have one of these? Not something anyone has ever mentioned and I hook mine up to a battery conditioner if it's going to be sitting for more than a week.

I think they discontinued fitting the battery off switch in the boot around MY2009, you will however have a battery disconnect switch which on my MY2012.25 V8 Vantage Roadster is installed near the battery behind the drivers seat.
Not long after I purchased my car I had situations where the car went electrically dead and I had to call AM Breakdown. They thought it was a battery problem so I got that replaced however the problem persisted. Took the car back to the dealer who had to call AM who advised them to change the battery disconnect switch. This was done under warranty and the car has been fine ever since.

Yes, battery disconnect switch (in the boot) was deleted from around 2010 onwards or so. But I have never ever read about the existence of a "battery disconnect switch" on or near the battery itself.

Mine is a roadster and it's located in the boot. Keep the radio on and press the button, if the radio dies it works. That's it.

Even AM dealer didn't know if it worked or not
