Hello, someone posted a photo off their Capri from rear three quarter view that to me looked like a MK2 Capri JPS. I asked if it was but they replied no, its a 3.0S and posted another photo from the side which looks like it has JPS gold stripes. Im sure they remember their own car but what do you think - JPS or 3.0S?

It does seem to say 3.0S on the side.

The stripes would appear to be the same as this one...

(still from a 1980 Hammer movie... http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_500138-Ford-Capri-197...)

And similar pattern, bar colour, to...

(German press photo)

Those are 3.0S alloys - The JPS came with gold and black 4 spoke RS alloys.

Are Lambert & Butler currently Formula 1 sponsors?

I think a more apt comparison nowadays would be the Focus ST Petronas.

Certainly has a ring to it.

Ford did jps in 1.6, 2.0 and 3.0, (being the rarest). If its an N or P reg plate its probably a JPS 3.0 model as opposed to an 3.0s

I'd say that's a JPS edition 3.0S.

Original Mk2 Capri briefly carried over the GT badge from the Mk1 in 1974. JPS for 1975 only (500 White cars then 1500 Black cars) then just S model in 1.6, 2.0 and 3.0.
Answer: Assuming the continuous edge striping is original its a JPS as the stripes were discontinued when the S spec replaced it.

The picture isnt very clear but the side stripes do look like a JPS but if it was shouldnt it have the Gold laurel wreath on the bonnet with JPS in the centre.

according to Ford

MARCH 1975:

Ford launches the Capri S at the Geneva Motor Show. With it's midnight black paintwork and gold coachlines. Black seats with gold Rialto cloth inserts.

JUNE 1975:

The Capri S (GTS / JPS) went on sale in the UK. Engine range consisted of 1.6, 2.0 and 3.0 V6. According to Ford UK production logs a total of 2003 were produced of which it is believed 25% were white.
Generally they had a JPS motive on the boot lid and side panels

MK2 Ford Capri 2000s and 3000s had thin coach lines painted with 3000s badges , MK3 2000s And 3000S had the iconic Stripes down the sides , these were either in Black for every colour other than black cars which had silver stripes

MK2 Capri 3000S

mk3 Capri 3000s with silver stripe.

mk3 Capri 3000s with black stripe ...bodies from the professionals

We (Dad) had a MK2 3.0 S in black and gold on an R plate, the wheels in the first picture look different, I remember ours having more of a 'dish' to them, like the ones in the German press photo (jspent many hours rubbing them down to paint them gold) the ones in the first picture look like more of a Cosmic style to me, the side stripes and S badges were the same
