The same thing that defines a classic album or film. A certain something that makes it stand out other than just its age.

Classic car becomes a classic when you can register it as Historic. Modern classic becomes modern classic as soon as you can convince the insurance co so you get a reasonable quote.

We all know it's a question that has no definitive answer, and the op in this case asked it three weeks ago and hasn't been seen since, so he obviously doesn't really care about the answer.

He played Internet Knock Down Ginger, and we all answered the door.

You should get counseling for that, if left un attended you'll end up buying one,

Which is why I always have my carer with me. She has a flip book of cars that I am allowed to buy, and cars that I should not buy.

And a cattle prod.

I'm picking up a 2002 L322 Range Rover on Saturday, and really not looking forward to the electric shock treatment. hehe

I'd agree with this as being the closest to a practical definition as is possible.

My 406 coupe has more wiring in the drivers door than my Capri 2.8i does in its entirety.
Although the coupe may too be teetering on the classic...

Quite a subjective thing. Personally I think a 'Classic' car is no newer than the mid 90s.

I`m sorry, I can`t think of an early Mondeo as a classic.

Age has nothing to do with it; age just makes a car 'old'.

My brother tried to insure his motorbike as a classic. they counted 15 years as classic (from memory) if HE was older than 21, but if he was younger than 21, the bike had to be 25 years old???

With respect to velicerosso,he didn't say ALL cars mid 90s on are classics, just that's where he draws the line for some to be classic.

Although a well kept ,rarer spec Mondeo ,like an Si,Ghia,4x4,might be a closet classic soon.
