Hmmnnnnn......I used to live near to a well known RR 'specialist' that acquired a reputation for doing that......

Correct, not in Essex.
Further west.

Just watching the video of him driving it to the Arctic!

Wonder what's happened to it since.
He still has it to my knowledge.
It’s in his garage, plans are to keep it due to the fact it went to the Arctic circle!
Really enjoyed the videos of the trip, recommended!

The MoT history shows it expired in 2018, just a month after they got back. I was wondering if he mothballed it or was doing a proper restoration.
It’s been driven, I think it’s MOT exempt.

Often been tempted by cheap Rolls and Bentleys over the years. The days of the 5 grand Shadow are gone but there are still plenty around the 9-10 thousand range, Spirits and equivalent Bentleys especially. Considering the ridiculous prices being asked for things like Minis and Escorts etc they look amazing value.

Is it possible to get a worthwhile Rolls at that sort of price, care for it and have an enjoyable hobby car...?

I have had 2 shadows, lovely cars to drive but a potential timebomb waiting to go wrong!

People forget that they were a very expensive car to buy and to maintain, the purchase cost is now Ford money but the repairs and servicing are still Rolls prices!

I did enjoy mine and might have another sometime but as said above buy the very best you can.

I’ve owned 2 Shadow 2’s and an Arnage and they’re all the sort of car I buy then park up at home and think, what do I do with it now. They don’t really serve a purpose, as much as I still want another, or maybe a late Brooklands

I bought mine for £3k. Nice car needing an engine. Took a further 18k to get it on the road and I did most of the work.

I fear that I have missed this boat. I fancied buying a Silver Shadow when I turned sixty, but that isn't for another three years, and the prices have already headed further north than Crewe.

I have driven a couple and think that they are very fine waftmobies.

Thanks, was just curious as there is a specialist here of dubious dealings (apparently)

Friend of mine was a salesman at a Royce dealership in the 80s. He'd done a deal with a Brewster Green (from memory) Shadow I as part ex. Lovely car, low mileage, immaculate and well maintained. Easily retailed, even though it was already a few years old.

When it came in it was beautifully presented and drove perfectly, but something was wrong. It didn't smell right.

It took a while to realise that rather than soft, plush green leather, this thing had been specced from new with a vinyl interior.

Wool or velour were not unheard of, but vinyl? Must have been one of one, that. Ever since then I've been sure to check that what claims to be leather, actually is.

Lots of manufacturers say leather These days when to me it feels like plastic.

I believe it’s reconstituted bits of crap leather mushed up with a plastic dirt of seal to it. Utter crap.

I keep the windows down a little in the garage, you can smell the leather en route from kitchen into utility even before you get to the f
Garage.

Now you are just teasing us!

If I had not just (1) moved house, (2) started on a new business venture, (3) bought yet another shonky Italian car and shonky Italian motorbike, (4) filled my rented barn with tat, and (5) generally spaffed it all up the wall on fun and such, I would be on your Shadow like a tramp on chips, but, alas, reality must sometimes prevail...

I have to drive, cook, clean, and take out the bins - he's always on the cooking Madeira and isn't fit for anything after about 10 am, and not fit for much before then.
