I think Tim Shaw does put on an act for the show and the script does not help but he is a genuine petrolhead and car guy unlike most presenters

Like most of these shows it would be a lot better if the cut back the (cheap to make) presenter side and spent more time on the (much more expensive to make) fixing the car side.

I mean there must be a limit to the number of times the same suppliers can be 'surprised' to find Tim Shaw 'sneaking' in to their premises.

My problem, with Tim Shaw acting like a knob is that it reduces the credibility of the programme in general.

Tim plays the fool. Fuzz puts on his best exasperated expression, tuts and sighs. Tim comes up with the goods. The car gets finished.

The message is either that its OK to act like a tool, because somebody else will do all the hard work, or that we're all just pissing about, doing the bare minimum and then claiming we did all the work.

I don't mind TIm, he's a bit of a prat but he seems like a genuine petrolherad. And I can see that he adds a different dimension to the show for those who maybe aren't so into the mechanical side of things.

I do wonder who pays for all the resto work though. They must spend a relative fortune of some of the cars, I can't see the production budget stretching to that. Some of the owners (or their families) must make a contibution.

I find Dim Tim annoying, though more the persona than the person. At least on WD Mike 'Old Out Yer 'And Brewer goes and looks for the little guy who can fix stuff without the fannying about. Agree about the cars/owners this series, I'd rather see more bread and butter stuff done, no need for a sob story either, but as I've got a couple of motors sitting in sheds and I've had a sore ankle for the last few days........ wink

Fuzz should have his own programme on the interesting cars in the background of the workshop.
What I'd like to see is a series dedicated to all the men in sheds who provide services to the automotive industry.

We see random examples of this on WD and Car SOS, like the plexiglass digital cloning of the Messerschmitt canopy, the Maserati throttle body refurb guy, the cold welding guy, the guys who refurbed the VW Corrado ABS unit, and many, many, others featured on these programmes over the years, ..these are my real heroes!

We're not really aware what they can offer, or even of their existance until we see them on TV..

I assumed that was how they build the race cars.

That is so true. I took an old two-speed 60s Mustang wiper motor to an auto spark and he was hopeless but suggested a guy working out of a shed in a village a few miles away - who when I rang said come over now and I'll fix it. Walking into this shed it was piled high with starters and alternators with about a foot wide gap down the middle to walk through. He soon had the guts out of the thing and a bit of soldering and a new wire here and there and he had it working. £10 and a half hour chat about his collection of Velocettes later, I left a happy man!

Thank god for recording, rather than watching 'live'! Watched the Capri episode last night and if I hadn't been able to fast-forward through the st 'auction' bit I'd never have gotten to fast-forward through the 'blagging tyres from Dunlop' bit. Can't remember if that means I'd have missed the 'are they actually going to get almost technical and explain how open/LSD diffs work...no' bit.

I met Tim and Fuzz at the London Motor show on Saturday. Both genuine down to earth guys

Whoever thinks Tim's antics add to the shows appeal obviously doesn't visit forums.

I find the program watchable (just) but the "antics" are so childish and obvious that I can't really see who they're supposed to appeal to.

The average viewer, those that are taken in by the deadlines and false jeopardy, but are probably the majority of the audience. Much as I dislike those bits too, I have to accept that if it were just a techy restoration show it wouldn't be on prime-time TV, it would be on Quest just before tea-time.

Just watched the Sunbeam Alpine episode. My goodness they did a fantastic job bringing that car back from the brink. I'm not ashamed to say that I shed a tear or two at the reveal also. Long may both he and his wife enjoy it.

I think some of the posters in this thread who get worked up, irritated, cant watch etc due to the presenters antics really need to have a word with themselves. Some, if not most of the recipients of the car SOS treatment are in poor health, or have a terminal illness, and you get worked up about some poor scripts and terrible jokes? really ? is your life so perfect or empty that this gets to you?

I enjoyed the GT6 episode yesterday. Mainly as I owned one for a few months in the early 90's. I thought they did another great job. Sad to see the owner passed away earlier this year. Great to know he got to enjoy the car he loved so much before he went though.
