Had a 6a now have a 67 3Ltr GT Coupe. The Essex engine is great for very little you can nudge 200BHP in a 1200 kg car. These cars are bargains when you look at similar cars with the same engine from this period. Every one goes on about the break the bank paint jobs. Well get your typical classic with rotten sills arches etc it soon mounts up. The chassis do rust but can be sorted fairly easily as they aren’t steel tubes. Scimitars really grow on you and are something British and really different. Mine sits at 100mph all day long, not many classics you could name in the same price bracket can compete, period.
I hate lying on my side to look at photos.

Ah, that's better!

What a very odd person trying to ruin what has been a very cheerful thread! In an attempt to restore cheeriness, I shall attempt later to post a picture of the Scimitar Se5a that I am in the process of agreeing to buy from a very pleasant PH member (subject to obtaining his permission to post the pic, which is his).

Are you broken? Push off you sodding oik!

I've got an se5 in my garage that belongs to my Dad. The plan is to restore it eventually - it hasn't moved in 20 odd years! He's been distracted by his other toys, including an early 2.6 se4 GT, which is a rather pretty thing.

Hope you start a thread on your new acquisition BV!

I think he is very broken, or maybe some sort of troll bot. I wonder what he contributes to the forum. Me, I post here and elsewhere about disgusting old wrecks, I ask damn fool questions about mechanical stuff, I tell very bad jokes, I occasionally go and shout at the racists in NPE, and I sometimes give free legal advice. But mostly I blether on about the cars from Hades.

The non Hellish Scimitar will get a thread when I get the car - it has to be shipped to the BVI from South Carolina. Here it is, courtesy of the lovely seller.

The stench of canoe in hot climates must be overwhelming.

There is a blue Scimitar somewhere with a modified Essex V6 that sounds like a 6R4. Good enough reason to buy one.

Our new friend seems a little over exuberant doesn't he? And somewhat rude. I hope he stays though as he has a car.

I'm living my life vicariously through breadvan. Not the BVI bit of it, obvs, although I have recently moved to a tax haven for work purposes myself (although it's far less glamorous). Nor is it as sunny. But the love for strangely appealing but undoubtedly fundamentally flawed old cars.

It's great; thrills without the bills. Go breadvan!

Your right boys I couldn’t compete with 31k posts,, I think my keyboard would be broken. The light green 6 is an unusual color, and looks in great condition.

I wonder if our slightly tense new pal is familiar with the bit in Aristophanes' comedy "The Frogs" when the Athenians decide which of Aeschylus and Sophocles is the greatest Tragedian by grabbing some scales and weighing the two playwrights' nadgers? Well, that isn't how it works here; that's all I'm saying.

The green Carolina car is an SE5a manual with overdrive, from 1973. The interior is black and the car is getting a new frame for its Webasto roof at the moment. In due course it will be crossing by container ship and tramp steamer from the East coast of the US to the Eastern Caribbean. It would be fab to try to drive it here using car ferries and barges, either from Cuba and along the island chain from west to east, or via the Central American coast and then up the chain from the south and east, but that would take ages and I haven't got that much holiday time.

No I haven’t seen “The Frogs” but I do read The Very Hungry Caterpillar to my daughter most evenings, she loves it. I will endeavor to find a metaphor or lesson during tonight’s bedtime story. I hope you enjoy the car it looks in mint condition and an unusual period color like yours really suits the car, a little bit like the one that sold at auction in this thread. The longest trip I undertook was collecting a Scimitar in Italy and driving it back to Wales. I went through a fair amount of water for the rad. What got you into Reliants/ Scimitars?

Inability to afford a Jensen Interceptor at 2018 prices after selling a good one in 2014.

I drove that Jensen from London to the Abruzzo and back. Some petrol and oil came with, but did not come back.

I’ve come close to purchasing a Jensen on two occasions but lost my nerve. It’s something I now regret. They are certainly getting out of reach which is a real shame. There’s something of the Jensen about the Scimitar 5 alright. The Scimitar never had a cook book written in its honor though.

That GTE is crazy fast, the clip almost looks speeded up like the old knight rider clips. It’s nice and flat in the corners as well. I have just fitted GAZ shocks and coils and it’s made a significant difference to the handling. Cost £400 but well worth it. I won’t reach those speeds thought.

I have owned two Interceptors and borrowed a third, and they are every bit as good as people might imagine them to be. I have also driven the equivalent Bristol and Aston from the Interceptor era, and the Jensen is the best drive of all three in my opinion. No car, not even an Alfa GT Junior 1300 and a Lotus Europa John Player Special and a Matra Murena S have given me as much happiness as my second Interceptor did (it was an early Mark II made in very late 1969, and went by the name of Fabboceptor).

The Scimitar is not really just an Interceptor replacement. I have ummed and ahhed about owning a Scimitar for many years but have never seen one for an affordable price that was not very ratty. That has recently changed.
