Hi,

In the middle of buying all the parts to do a sound overhaul on my E61 BMW. I’ve purchased this enclosure box for the boot, to help aid my soon to be focal underseat subs.

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2...

Please can someone recommend a good sub to put in the box? I’m presuming it’s going to have to be a “shallow” sub, because of the lack of depth in the box?

Thanks to everyone who offers advice in advance,

Regards,

Mr Fox.

I've always been happy with Rockford Fosgate stuff. The Punch P1S2-10 looks good and at £85 on Amazon isn't too expensive either.

I've had no personal experience of this sub but it's well reviewed, and the specs make it look ideal for the enclosure you've bought.

A very difficult question to answer as the seller of the box hasn't specified its volume. Without that it is impossible to calculate the expected performance using a speakers Thiele-Small parameters.

Rockford Fosgate is good kit, although maybe not quite as good as it was 20 years ago. However, without being able to calculate the performance
it's possible that it will sound utter rubbish in the enclosure.

Putting any speaker in this will be a bit hit and miss. Sometimes you get lucky with just a cheap speaker. I recently put a 10" Chinese bass speaker that cost £7.99 into a Paradigm sub enclosure when the foam surround disintegrated on the original. It was going to be temporary until I re-foamed the original. However, the performance is so close to the original that I'm not going to bother!

The volume is 15 litres, or are we looking for some other dimensions? I can possibly try and call them for further information if you can tell me what it is I should be asking.

Thank you lots and lots!

The ebay ad says volume = 15 litres
RF website says 16.7 litres in a sealed box

I know that there's a lot more to subs than mounting depth and box volume but I was recommending the RF due to previous experience of their stuff.

Won't that cause phase problems if you have underseat subs, and a sub 2-3 metres away in the boot?

I have no idea, although the installer (IN CAR MUSIC based in Leyton) didn’t see to have any issues with it or concerns.

Hi,

Just wanted to say thanks. On the back of your recommendation I went ahead and bought it, brand new for £67 from Ebay. A bargain no doubt.

I'll review it once its all installed.

Kind regards,

Mr Fox.
