Does one exist. I was thinking an MGB GT with the seats down? Any ideas?

I really like the scimitar idea! Hadn’t realised they were so inexpensive!

I am also quite liking the idea of a w124 estate...

What size of dog is pretty critical, as is safety is critical.

You don't want a dog, of any weight, flying around in case of an accident.

For that reason I would opt for a vehicle in which the dog can be restrained, preferably in a cage.

Good luck. Let us know how you get on.

I've a BGT and find access to the back seat isn't ideal for a dog, having to jump up onto it with restricted manoeuvring space. When they are in the boot with the back seat down they do move around a bit during cornering. Although I use one of the roadster seat belt mounts to attach their harness. Due to the slope of the rear screen they are quite exposed to sunlight. If I've only got one dog she sleeps on the front seat.

When I saw this thread title I also thought Scimitar, which is on the list of car I am also considering. As a left field solution, but in a similar vein a Gilbern Invader, or if the pockets are deeper a Volvo P1800E. There is the temptation of a rare Jensen Healey GT going through the SWVA auction soon.

Triumph Herald estate or Triumph 2000/2500 estate should be doable within that budget.

Rover P6 'Panelcraft' Estate, if you can find one! Probably easy enough to fit a cage / division in the back.

Hi all, my dog is a black lab. My journey to work is only 1.5 miles all in one road, so I don’t think I’ll need to use a cage. Normally we just walk so it’d only be the really nasty days I ever take the car. Any other trip will be in our kodiaq (the family car)

Not a thoroughbred classic, but would a mk2 golf do the job?

Never even knew these existed. After seeing an image online, I can't imagine they sold many.

I have been looking for a 2.5 pi estate for 3 years now and they rarely come up in good condition they really are rust buckets.
Looked for a good Scimitar too not succeeded yet.

Not ideal for a dog the size of a Lab.
Hatchbacks are not ideal for dogs because of the high load sill.

Traditional estate is more preferable for the dog.

Well, given the OP posted about the Mk2 Golf option, I was guessing that tax exempt may not now be a priority?

On the basis that, estate, that budget and tax exemption are going to be a tough call.

Other than...?

Yes, as long as you like them 'in need of attention'.....because the OP's budget is at the rough end of Amazon estates prices.

As they get older Labradors tend to suffer hip problems. You'll not want to be picking it up and having to lift it over a high load sill especially as they get fat too. Also any car with a fairly sloped rear hatch and lots of glass isn't much fun for a dog in the summer Suggest a classic estate car or camper van.
