I seem to remember the OP was considering a dark purple for the Jag to start with. It is a very smart type of colour and a slightly brighter version would suit a small car like the GT6. I hope the project gets off the ground.

that’s right but decided the black over red leather was more suitable for the thug in a savile row suit I was aiming for. Learnt quite a few lessons with the Jag too.

Funny you should post that, and as well that I continued to read further before quoting that one, as that was going to be my suggestion for the purple laugh
It's called Purple Velvet Metallic by the way.

In the late 1970s I had company Cortina MKIII 1600XL in that colour. Wasn't it first introduced on the MkII 1600E?

No, that was Aubergine.
From aging memory cells, I think it was first offered around 73, on the Escort 1300E. Although, it was certainley available on other Fords around the same time.

The number plate will be the same engraved mirror line black and silver like on the Jag.

I think the two cars would sit nicely alongside each other
Looking forward to seeing how this one progresses Craig, best of luck wink

What size will the Halibrands be by the way..?

No idea yet just kicking ideas around. Launch the XJC in May then see what is about. Guess the original wheels were 13s?

If you're looking for compact AC, it may be worth speaking to Jonathan Hart at Classic Retrofit: http://classicretrofit.com/products

Mainly 911 bits thus far but I know there have been AC installs for other classics. It isn't cheap but is well regarded and his quality is superb; I saw his AC system in beta a few years back and was really impressed.

(A little o/t but for further context, I had already bought one of his fuse panels for my 911 and the quality is quite something; really beautifully engineered and constructed.)

Fort Type 9 would be obvious choice. You get a better range of gearsets to take best advantage of a 2.5 engine swap and can still get sychro rings without risking them being made of sweet wrapper foil.

Or a sensible choice for anyone planning on spending long hours in the driver's seat. Mk1 MK5 seats are a reasonably easy swap and a hell of a lot more comfortable than the standard seats, even with brand new foams.

Depends on the sports exhaust.

I can only assume you've not spent much time in a GT6 in the summer - a car developed by Triumph by combining the body of a Le Mans Spitfire with the 6 cylinder engine from the Vitesse...and the commercial oven from the staff canteen!

Well if he doesn't fit one he'll be able to hear his hifi kit.

13s sounds about right Craig. I've seen some Spitfire / GT6 and TR4/5/6 wheels on a Marcos GT, which means the rather nice Marcos mag alloys will also fit the GT6 (if that makes sense...).

Thanks guys. Just kicking ideas for now so if you have any other suggestions of what you would do if you bought one (apart from keep it standard make it a museum piece type things) get them out there.

Just had a belated lightbulb moment, back in the late '80s a neighbour of ours had two nicely modified GT6s back to back, the first one was a '67 on an 'E' plate in bright yellow with deep dished 13'' Minilites and tinted glass at the side and rear (a medium brown tint if memory serves), it looked surprisingly different simply because of the wheel choice. The second one was a Mk3 in magenta, that lovely shade also seen on Stags, with slightly wider than standard Rostyles, I'm pretty sure it had a bespoke dash too, it looked similar to (but not as wide, obviously) a Series 2 XJ6. It also had the mirrorline engraved plates which looked just right against the Magenta.

Just did a search of colours of that era, and Damson Red was the colour of that Mk2 GT6 owned back in the 80's by my ex-work colleague.

He had a pair of these stuck on the sides of the bonnet just in front of the bonnet release handles.

What is the correct triumph logo of the era? I understand that the laurel leaf badge was late TR and Acclaim etc only.

I don't think there was one by the Mk3 era, as it was by then BL.

The Mk1 & 2 GT6 era was still the old Triumph shield, but by the early 70's it was all under the infamous BL logo.

I don't the Mk3 GT6 even had a Triumph badge anywhere on it?
