They look cutting edge for an early 80's car IMO. From memory early jelly mould Sierra was ‘83 - closer to the point.
I was a multi franchise Spanner Monkey in the 80's and got to drive almost everything you could think of.
My own car was a reworked Mk 1 Escort and when that had either borked itself or was in bits having further surgery I'd mostly be driving either a scabby old Renault 12 or whatever the workshop hack was at the time.

A mid 70's Fiat 128, it slowly dissolved while dribbling oil. A symphony of red oxide primer and Brown Velvet paint
It was eventually replaced by that triumph of 80s motoring the Mk2 Astra 1.3 Merit, a new one. So many blanked off switches & dials, poverty spec and asthmatic.
The epitome of disappointment

Mercedes SL and a Porsche 911.
Pioneer Component stereo with CD player that'd skip at the mere suggestion of a bump in the road.
Motorola talking brick 'transmobile' cell phone wired into the headlights so it would flash the lights if a call came in when you were out windsurfing.
Snooper radar detector that'd get triggered by refrigeration units in shops when you drove down a high street.
It was the 80s after all.

And ... My mate's Ferrari 328GTB - but tragically , nobody who knew me saw me driving it . Except ,my mate obvs

Hillman Avenger, then a R5 gordini Turbo, followed by a 2.8 injection special and then to round the 80,s off a 944 lux.
Now own a R5 gordini turbo, 2.8 injection special and not quite a 944, but a 968. Not too bothered about getting an
avenger for the collection, but maybe an Avenger Tiger one day.

they were a very underrated little car, felt really fast back then.
In 1980 I had a MkII Escort (1.3 estate!). Lasted until 1982 and 130k miles and mega-rust. Gave it to my landlord in lieu of 6 months rent. (amazingly it went on for another 12 months before spectacularly throwing a rod on the M4)
That was followed by a MkIV 2.0GL Cortina.
In 1984 I had reached the heady heights of company cardom. A brand new Vauxhall Cavalier 1.6L! Lots of fond memories...
In 1987 that was replaced by another new Cavalier (1.6GL this time).
In 1999 I changed jobs and was given a Peugeot 405 1.9 diesel. That was replaced by a Citroen BX 1.9TD in 1990.
