I'm a big classic car lover; embedded in them for many years, but the E-type, particularly in coupe form, is not a looker IMO.

The E-Type pictured (2+2) is the worst looking variant of the lot, to be fair.

It has to be the two seat coupe. Everything else was wrong. Particularly the 2+2.

TR4 and BGT in Brookvale today…



The Triumph had an odd rear window in that it was rigid, and the roof needed a couple of targa panels - haven’t seen that arrangement on one of these before

That's a "Surrey Top" quite popular in the early 60's.

Interesting roof rack arrangement attached to the Surrey top mounting points. Can’t think that it would take much weight.

OK actual TR nerd time – everyone refers to the 'Surrey Top' but the 'Surrey Top' is strictly speaking just the canvas bit and its associated sticks that go between the 'backlight' (ie the glass rear window and frame) and the windscreen. The alternative to the fabric Surrey Top is called (imaginatively) the 'Roof Panel'.

It's shame Triumph didn't pursue the idea for the TR6, it's a much nicer solution than the TR6 hard-top.
