Sounded sublime. On US plates
Or a UK number dressed to look like a US one of course.
The number appears to be KAN 915 which does not comeback as being a UK number:

(XAN 915, NAN 915 MAN 915, also comes back as not existing)

The registration format is Vermont USA:

It's either on temporary import for 6 months, during which time it can be used legally with it's USA registration plates, or it's been permanently imported and is on it's way to an MOT station (where it will fail immediately due to the plate), or is being driven illegally on the US plates, or it's on fake plates.

Temporary import would be unusual, but some people are extremely attached to their cars and want to have adventures in them.

Surely it couldn't fail it's MOT (if it even needed one) for wearing the plates from its country of origin?

Also MAN 915 won't show on UK databases as it is an IOM number.

But how could a foreign reg car get UK legal plates before it's been tested?

A nice mix of runners, dozing and irretrievables at a kibbutz about half an hour west of Tel Aviv. Open free of charge every Saturday morning.

I saw an immaculate Matra like this gliding through the streets of Angouleme a few years ago

A lowlight convertible!

with reference material on the back seat

A Jaguar saloon - anybody shed any light on it?

The green MG had a photo album documenting its restoration, as did some of the other cars.

I would have liked to chat to the owner, but he appeared to be hosting a group visit. Maybe next time.

You just take them off and 1st MOT is on the chassis.

The lowlight Moggie looks like a chopped saloon rather than a bona fide convertible. Is the 2CV one of those 4WD versions ?

You are probably right about the Moggie. Yes, 2CV is a 4wd, with a second engine in the boot.
