I bet she did! biggrin

Back in the day our local Citroen dealer sent my dad an invitation to test drive an XM - if he took it up he would get a weekend for 2 in Paris as a prize. He wasn't interested so passed it to 18 year old me and I was delighted to accept. Either they didn't clear his name from the database or they would do anything to get a sale so kept sending him the same offer. Over a period of about 4 years I had that trip to Paris, and another 3 UK breaks in some rather nice hotels where scruffy student me and a variety of inappropriate girlfriends enjoyed Citroen's generosity!

I did something similar with a Rover Sterling. My dad received an invite for a 48 hr test drive that he had no intention of accepting, so he gave it to me. I managed to coerce the Rover dealership into letting me have the car for 72 hrs instead, so I went to school in it on a Monday then drove it from North Wales to Bristol and back to visit the university which I considered applying for.

Neither event produced a successful outcome.

That'll be as damp on the inside as outside.

Wetter. The outside at least has a chance to dry between downpours.

Up in London for a couple of days, I went for a run this morning between Buckingham Palace Road and The Regent's Park. among all the fugly limos and modern tickytacky performance cars, this beautiful thing was parked on the road a short distance from the Egyptian Consulate/Embassy.

I didn't get a picture of it, but there was a black Porsche/Gemballa 'Mirage' GT outside one of the posh hotels off Park Lane, wearing a Middle Eastern registration plate. I'm not a fan, but clearly a rarity and a very expensive high end car.

From an era when RR used to build beautiful looking cars. Lovely thing.

Great colour scheme as well. Rarer Bentley version.

You’ll upset the guys on the “Black plates on 70’s cars” thread.

Yellow & white are the period correct plates for this car but, being pre-‘80, the owner could legally retro-fit b&s plates.

I tend to agree with you that b&s plates would set it off but don’t tell them over there > 🤫

Get. Out! That Bentley is perfect visually. A b&s plate would ruin it, no question.

It’s the font that’s wrong not the colour

Surely it's the lack of a border & the makers name beneath the registration that's most offensive..?

wink

Yep, that as well

I remember there was a surround, but can’t recall how the plate was fixed to boot lid

Seen outside a clam chowder restaurant in San Fran today. Just sat there minding its own business.

Dark blue was never a factory colour. I wonder if that's one of those 800bhp Canepa restorations?

That's really cool. I remember seeing a couple of 959's on the road when new, in particular a brown one, but since then only in museums.

I saw a Lambo Muira & Porsche 550 in SF when I was there (2019), plus loads of interesting street parked classics.

Also needs to be a metal plate with raised plastic didgets, not a modern plastic thing.

IIRC these couldn't be sold new in the US?

I seem to recall some being bought and stored until they could be imported?

I seem to recall this chap is a PHer (possibly on this thread, too) wavey and it was delightful to see on the road, dog's head out of the window and seeing the lovely headrests through the rear windscreen. Driven in a sprightly manner too.
