It most certainly is Cricket House. As you say, it provided the exteriors (and some interiors) for 'To The Manor Born'. Which is why it tickled me to be able to get this shot of such an iconic "car of the seventies" in front of the house. I waited days for the opportunity, and I was lucky that all of the guests with modern cars left before the driver of this Triumph Stag.

The house is now a Warner Hotel, and if you book a 'Historic Room' in the old house you get a reserved parking space on the gravel drive as one of the perks. The public rooms downstairs have a lot of on-set and behind the scenes photos taken during production of the sitcom too.

Sadly, I must confess, nothing so highbrow as the trials and tribulations of Audrey fforbes-Hamilton and Richard DeVere took me there. No, I was on a pilgrimage to Crinkley Bottom to mourn the loss to the nation of Mr Blobby's house, 'Dunblobbin', and the closure of Cricket St Thomas Wildlife Park. Both places we'd visited when our children were young.

Our room for this visit was...

...behind the three windows on the upper floor to the right of Penelope Keith in this picture. It's enormous, and has two windows in the main room with padded window seating and views over the lovely gardens. The room behind the window closest to her head has been converted into a large bathroom with a free standing bath and large separate walk-in shower.

Horrible colour scheme IMHO. Reminds me of those Dinky Toy re-issues of old stock in weird 2-tone paint jobs.

A nice Spitfire parked up in Longton this morning.

My wife had an almost identical one thirty five years ago (XRC 441S where are you now?). I suppose it’s rather sad that I can remember our registration numbers from years ago!

Looking at the reg it hasn’t travelled too far either. It’s strange how some of the old family reg numbers still stick

Unfortunately i can't remember the reg of my 1975 "N" Spitfire.. I was 19 at the time in 1979 and have some great memories of it and indeed while courting my now wife of 40...years I do remember mine had a 1500 logo on the lefthand side of the bonnet...
