Can anyone identify the silver American car in my picture of Firenze? Immediately thought AMC Rambler or Ford Falcon, but the swage line down the side does not fit either.
Not sure it is an American car, give the size comparison with the Beetle next to it......a yank would be dwarfing a Beetle, even a small one like a Falcon etc.Opel or Taunus perhaps?
(edit: yes, it's a roof rack that makes the roof 'break' that I thought was a soft top)

While we are in Italy & I am scanning my father's 1973 holiday slides in. Here is one that is almost in Italy: St Peters Square August 1973, with lots of interesting cars, not least an Innocenti ADO 16 (and lots of roof racks):
On the odd occasions I go over to Europe I'm disappointed that it doesn't look like this Found these while pretending to work from home.
First is my dad on his honeymoon, dated 27 May 1967 and 14 months before I was born. This is Caernarfon, near the castle. May be some fun to be had spotting cars in the background. Father's car was a white Austin Mini Countryman, reg number unknown but it predated the "A"-suffix.
Second one (sorry it's a bit dodgy - badly degraded 120 print) features our Renault 16, CUN770L. This would have been late 1970s, location unknown but probably Snowdonia somewhere. We would have squeezed my grandparents into the car - no problem with the 16's front bench seat - and headed off for the day. My dad would have taken the pic, and that's a young Turbobanana perched on the bonnet. The 16 was dark blue with beige vinyl and was supremely comfortable and practical. I think my dad would have kept it forever but the chassis decided it wanted to be one with nature and it failed its MoT so was swapped for a nasty Morris Marina, in what would even then have been regarded as a backward move.

Quite a few more to be had in the photos below! - this old granary in Edinburgh seems to have been a body shop with a bit of a specialism in Renaults in the 60s and 70s.
4 here, pictured in 1970...
...including 2 early pre-facelift models
Rare R4 pick up far right of frame in first pic.4 here, pictured in 1970...

Er, 3 pre facelifts surely!

Not so many cars left by 1978, but still one R16.
Who let the Peugeot 204 estate in! (Presume that the A40 & P4(?) to left are the mechanics cars). 4 here, pictured in 1970...

Wonder whether the granary survives. Lovely old building.
It seems that I was incorporated into a hotel, but there now seems to be a plan to convert it into flats (it’s the only surviving part of Bell’s Mills, Dean Village, where there are indeed a lot of lovely old buildings). It had already become a car body shop by 1965. This photo features a couple more Renaults, among others.
