I've never heard of a 'Long door TR2' was it a factory special or a one-off conversion?

It's a bit of a misnomer really - if you take the TVR 'S' series the S3 genuinely had "longer" doors than the S2 so as to allow lanky drivers like me to squeeze in an out.

With the TR2 the early cars (about 4,000 produced) should really be known as the "deep door" cars - the door aperture extended down to the bottom of the bodyshell whilst later cars had shallower doors with a sill beneath them. So the early cars were lighter and handled better - but you made a mess of the bottom of the door when you opened it against any sort of kerbing.

A closer look at the magnificent Allard. Take a Morris Minor Traveller, add an American V8 and force feed it with high dose steroids for a week and you get this :

I like the old petrol pump; we'll soon be back to something similar with electric charging leads all over the place smile

Eta; trying to date the picture - Rover P5 in bottom left has the perspex window tops, so an early one from late '59, Commer van 1960 onwards? The Rover looks as if it could be fairly new, so 1960/61, as a guess?

Anything later?

The white B1 Passat on the right hand side of the road is an 74/75 N reg and looks like it's been in the wars so late 70's would be a good guess. Our family car around that time was a light blue Passat exactly like that - the square headlights mean it was the "L" model - not the entry level (2 round headlights) or the sporty TS (4 round). Can't remember the last time I saw one alive.

That street in Muswell Hill still looks the same - the young couples who bought a house there in the late 70's would be handing down a couple of million plus pounds worth of real estate to their kids now!

In 1975 we walked the Pennine Way, and at High Force in Teesdale the promo video for the Mk1 Fiesta was being filmed - I was reminded of it because I saw a clip of the film taken from a helicopter that flew up the valley, unfortunately I can't remember where it was!

We went past before they started filming so it was covered over and a security man was looking after it - we asked if we could look under the cover but he wouldn't let us.

The had to lift it in with the chopper, the security guy said they discovered once they were there that it was too heavy for the chopper to lift it so they had to taken the engine out - I don't know if they lifted it across separately and put it back in or somehow compressed the front springs.

I wonder if it was recently imported at the time or rented out to Arne during filming of something - it’s left hand drive which is unusual for Australia.
