My Dad in, I think, a Zephyr ? I had but now lost photos of him in a similar shape Zodiac with sun visor and chrome spot lamps.

I think that's actually a Zodiac, or as it was called in Mk1 days, a Zephyr Zodiac.
I wait to be corrected but I think that's what it says on the bonnet. Visors and spots were options.

Correct.

Two tone paint is a give-away for being a Zephyr Zodiac (as well as the mentioned nameplate on the front)

I wasn't sure about the 2 tone.
Certainly the Mk2 consul came in 2tone. Mine was pink and white, Dad's was grey and black.

Consul is a different front end, shorter with rectangular outline grille, and two-tone was standard paint on the Zody, single tone on the Zephyr Six (although two-tone would have been an option on the Zephyr I think prior to the Zody coming out in '53)
My Mk1 Z-car knowledge from 40-odd years ago is now very dim and distant in my aging memory cells though.....

Amazing that Borscht n Tears the Russian restaurant is still there over 50 years later. Good reviews too!

Zephyr Zodiac. 1 spot and 1 fog were actually standard and the reason the 'Zephyr Zodiac' script is placed higher up on the bonnet than the 'Zephyr Six' script on the Zephyr was to stop the fog/spot obscuring the script (not-a-lot of people know that wink )

Two-tone paint standard on Zodiac, not a listed option on the Zephyr.

My dad had a Zephyr Six that looked very similar. The rocket on the bonnet was on upright rather than splayed stands. We used to play a game of spot the Ford with the upright bracket. Life was a simpler time in the '60s biggrin

Blimey, THAT is proper in depth knowledge.
At least I was right about the visor.

Cheers mate.
