My grandad had a purple MK3, a 1600XL (from memory) in the mid-late 70s. I seem to recall there were myriad different front end treatments: single round headlights, twins, single rectangular etc, a variety of dashboards and several different grilles. Grandad's had single rectangulars with a black grille and looked pretty smart for the time, with those black & silver "fake alloys" and a plush interior that even featured some wood on the dash and door cappings. The dash was the same as the Mk4 (in beige) he replaced it with, after he lost confidence in it when a fly managed to evade the air filter and make it into the float chamber while on holiday.
Sounds more like a 2000E if it had wood dash and door cappings and rectangular headlights, as that would be late Mk.3, M to P reg.It could be an XL, if it had just a wood dash, but only the E had the wood dash and wood door cappings.

It looks like a MK5 to me, so definitely not a GXL or 2000E as they were MK3s.
I think you've got confused with the postings by different people. The photo posted of the Mk.V isn't related to the story posted about the purple Mk.3...other than the colour.....And even then, the Mk.V wasn't purple as such, it was a more wine/burgundy colour, the name escpaes me what Ford called it.
The purple on a Mk.3 would have been Purple Velvet metallic.....a cracking colour and a true 70's glam-rock era metallic purple

I’m willing to bet that if Turbobanana had posted his remark on Mumsnet, he’d never have got that kind of reply. Top quality car nerdery, aeropilot.
Quite right Dino. Although, in fairness, anyone likely to be on Mumsnet would probably not be old enough to fully appreciate what a Cortina was. Grandmanet, perhaps? aeropilot said:

It would be quite fun to set up an account on Mumsnet under the name 'Turbobanana'(assuming he doesn't already hold an account there )

They'd probably not get past 'Turbobanana' without being triggered in some way.
I'd never really considered it that way. It actually relates to my ownership of a Monte Carlo Yellow Saab 900 Turbo Convertible, which was christened "The Turbo Banana" for very obvious reasons. Here it is on the school run:They'd probably not get past 'Turbobanana' without being triggered in some way.

Good job his PH name isn't Bionic Rabbit then

Australia got Cortinas with the 3.3 and 4.1 litre straight six from the Falcon. Not driven one, but would presume turn in would be less than precise…
Of course! Totally forgot about those. 3 dial cluster was bespoke to that as well i thinkhttps://www.shannons.com.au/auctions/2019-shannons...

They also got a version of the "Sweeney" Granada with a four and a bit litre V8. I rented one for a month in 2000 (it was an old rattler by then). It went like the clappers and had an epic thirst for fuel. The pound was high and the Oz dollar in the toilet at the time so I didn't really GAS.

Has a few styling cues from the Mk2 Granada, but seeing one kinda plays with your mind. It looks like a Granada, but it’s clearly not, it’s just that it takes a while to figure out that it’s bigger all round and the side profile is not quite the same. Came with a 4.1 six pushing out about 150bhp with EFI.
If you were driving one in 2000 I can only imagine how much of a rattler it was by then….
