A 'period' classics pictures thread (Mk II)

Unfortunately I'm old and can remember Crewe back then.
The bomb site in the left of the picture was only redeveloped in the late 60's/early 70's
as I recall.
To the right of the photographers view point was BSM, and the record shop (Kettels?),
Across the road was a night club, ah, the sophistication of the 60's !!
The Rootes (and Lotus) dealers was ,I think Anchor Motors ,also in Chester.
Any more pictures of Royce's ,brings back many happy memories!!
The guys lining the colour margins were amazing to watch ,never saw him/his workmates cock it up once, even though one of them used to shake dreadfully ,rock steady as soon as the brush got near the job though ,a constant source of wonderment to a younger me.

Looks more like the bottom of Mill Street to me!
As you say, the junction of Mill Street (under the bridge), Oak Street across the front of the garage and (now) Vernon Way coming in from the left hand side, into a roundabout. On the far corner of that roundabout is Crewe Heritage Centre, and for a while the APT nose poked through the trees there. A striking ad for the centre that was removed, unfortunately. Anchor Motors is now Farmfoods or a tile shop, I forget which way around they are.Interesting to see all the development on the far side of the road in the top left of the photo, I have no memories of that area being built up though I know it was. Now there's a section of empty ground, then Wickes, then there was Robert Layland's Vauxhall garage, which became other dealers, and is now flattened pending what must be the slowest of new-build Aldi and B&M combos.

Thanks for those, TR4 man stirred some happy memories !!
The town centre shot taken up the hill towards Hightown (where Chatfields the Ford dealer was) with Arthur Chatwins cake shop on the right ,Halfords was still in the LH parade of shops until the early 70's .
Nice old pics of Cooke's garage.

I'd say later than that - I recall parking my early cars outside when my mate worked in the shop there, and that was mid-80s. After that it headed out to Grand Junction retail park, then moved to another unit on the same place some years later. That Chatwins store on the right is still there, as is "Burtons" in the foreground of the other photo. All of the block that used to contain Halfords is earmarked for Interesting seeing the trucks labelled "Partons" - I wonder whether that's anything to do with AB Parton, which later became ABP Motorsport. I think I'm correct in saying that there was another Partons shop along West Street at one point, I think that was a general / hardware shop so perhaps the trucks are theirs.

I wonder which got scrapped first, the Scirroco or the Western class Diesel.P5BNij said:

In this case it's probably the VW, as the loco in the photo D1013 'Western Ranger' was preserved (along with six others) and now lives on the Severn Valley Railway Gassing Station | Classic Cars and Yesterday's Heroes | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
