Hi,

7 weeks ago now I had a sudden panic about when my MOT expired and checked when I got home from work.
I found out it had expired about 3 weeks previously.
I got it booked in as quickly as possible and had it done 3 days later on the Monday ( I didn't drive my car again for these 3 days apart from taking it to the test center where it passed)

However, I remember passing a police car on my way to work on the Friday morning (the day I realised my MOT was expired)

I did not get stopped or anything and now my worry is that even though I was not stopped or anything at the time that they may have still realised and could receive a fine at a later date.

What is the likelihood of this happening? As I would imagine you would most likely be stopped to establish whether or not I was on my way to an MOT test.

I'm aware the 14 day NIP does not apply in this situation but I would think I would have heard something by now if the police normally deal with situations like this without stopping the driver at the time.

Thanks a lot for your help smile
You're fine, nothing will happen.

My horn stopped working and a couple of weeks later I drove near a police station. This was in 1987 and I haven't been able to sleep since.

I ate 4 grapes whilst walking around Safeway in 1996... still worry that blatant theft was the start of their downfall..

Police cars are equipped with automatic number plate recognition. If it wasn't for this I wouldn't be concerned

If you've not heard anything now you won't. Despite the unhelpful comments in here I really wouldn't worry. It's only a fine anyway, not endorsable. I've done it before accidentally without drama.

At the same time you were passing with your expired MOT, their ANPR system will have been pinging its bks off at the half-dozen uninsured twonks passing in the other direction. That would be more likely to take their attention away from the donuts (joking, before PH plod pounce.)

If they were going to report you for it they'd have stopped you.

Have a look out the window is there a surveillance van?

Have you got a ginger wig and sunglasses and a rain coat, I would wear that for a few months just to be sure.

OP, you will almost certainly hear nothing more about it, especially as you car now has a current mot.

If you can't stop thinking about it, so what if the worst happens? You will receive a small fine which you will pay, soon forget about and get on with your life. You will still be OK.

If the sanction is somehow more severe, you are a fully functioning, resourceful human being and you will deal with whatever you need to when the time comes. You will be OK.

Have some faith in your ability to overcome life hurdles and don't waste precious time with ”what ifs.....?”

OP... Go to Twitter* and look at your local traffic police feed. See how many people they pull over and then do for lack of MOT (amongst other things), then consider how many ANPR cameras these people had driven past, then sleep easy.
Yes, *other social networks are available but Twitter seems fairly ubiquitous for "look at all the naughty people we caught!" Police feeds biggrin

If you pinged (I don’t even know if MOT pings ANPR) then how would they know you weren’t on your way to a pre-arranged MOT?

Unless..they correlate all MOT pass/fails from the DVLA for that day...
Or ring every garage in the UK and check if you had an appointment...

Any of that sound likely? If not sleep easy you got away with your crime.

But what if they reading this thread...
