According to the caption, having seen the success of Batista’s little Foray into the world of motorsport, Portugal put on its own event, sometime in the 60’s, judging from the BMW’s, probably late 60’s.

I believe it is. And based on the Escort Mk1 on the third row, January 1968 at the very earliest.

Apologies, Correction, the website the image comes from is in Russian, the caption should have read.

"To boost morale, the Portuguese, just like Batista in Cuba, held car races in Luanda."

"The little orange car, I think, is a prototype of our 'Zaporozhets.'

My money would be on an NSU 1000 or 1200.

I think the true meaning, probably got a bit ‘lost in translation’.

With an NSU on pole and a Mk 2 Cortina on the 2nd row the guys in Porsche 906's on the 3rd & 4th rows of the grid should be seriously questioning their driving abilities. As for the guy back on the 6th row in a "snorkel" Lotus 47 - time to take up bowls ?

Yes, I don't know why I always think in my broken head it is a 33...

its indeed a Alfa Sud that I had and in the picture thumbup

I don't even have a picture from that car... but then it was long time ago when I had to sell my beloved Ford RS2000 to get a cheaper to run Alfa Sud when I had to go in the Army and payment was very low...

ah, a 104, in my mind I was thinking of a 204 but did not wrote that down hehe

most of those I remember were 3 door, but this is a I guess a bit more (but less nice to my eyes) rare 5-door.

1st image a ‘home sick’ Finn/Dane or embassy staff car?

2nd image, Ford Capri, looks like a poverty spec ‘L’ either 1300/1600. Is that our photographer’s conveyance in shot a fine looking bicycle?

3rd image, shifty looking car dealer, about to lift the floor mats on the MG or erase a ‘0’ off the price.

4th image, either a very tall man or very small cars, probably both. Looks a tad parky (Northern slang for cold).

The other way around Rene. Most were the common 4/5 door. There was a 3 door but was quite rare, the more sporty 104 Z.
Later there was the very similar Citroen LN which was everything but sporty!
