A hotted-up Anglia for me, please.

I won't do it, but I like the fact that it still intrigues me.

The spec I can still reel off for you: Classic struts and discs, 5 1/2 Js, 1650 pushrod - or a Lotus Twin Cam! - with a bullet box from a 2000E.

I even enjoyed typing the words.

Marvellous.

Mate of a mate bought a 105E back in 1982-ish from the original owner........under 30k miles from new, garaged from new.......still smelt like a new car.....white with red interior and a red side stripe.
He then preceded to do the as you suggested above, with addition of Lotus-Cortina steels, but with a 1500GT from a Mk.Cortina GT etc, rather than a later x-flow. He did think of putting a TC in it, but decided to save that idea for a later day.

As for gearboxes, to be pendantic, the Bullet nametag wasn't the 2000E gearbox, it was the name of the set of close ratio gears available from Ford Motorsport that could be fitted to the 2000E gearbox for competition use.....a standard 2000E gearbox wasn't a Bullet gearbox.

Owned quite a few of the ones mentioned above but the one I missed out on was the Colt Lancer Turbo

Probably would have liked a white one.

I'd like my Escort Twin Cam back please.

Or a late production Rover P6 3500.

When I was 18 (1991) I was dabbling in selling cheap used cars through the classifieds, and one of the local dealers had a 1979 Porsche 924 they he had taken in as a trade in. It was £1500, and I sold him a 1985 Astra and paid the balance. It was not a smart business move as it tied up most of my cash, but I absolutely loved it.

I really would really like to buy another, and love the purity of the very early models.

Also on my list is an X19, 2CV and maybe a Scimitar GTC.

I was 17 when the Vauxhall Cavalier Calibre was introduced, I loved the body kit, but hated the integrated grill / bumper. I'd quite like to have one, even if just to modify the front end, to install a colour coded SRi grill.

Maybe when I move back to Europe I shall purchase a convertible.

Oops. There wasn't a lot of science to it. I was just a mindless devotee reciting words. The odd thing was me hankering after a Ford at all. Virtually all my early cars were BMC A-series.

The former two standard and un-Barried, obviously.
I'd be very happy in those 3 as well. I've always really wanted a Fiesta RS Turbo, but from what I read they aren't very good though.

I'm not surprised, those are some very impressive stats for the era.

Youth depends upon your age of course, and I was in my thirties when I had the two cars I miss most. And I have had some cars beilieve me from a Ferrari down to a Moggie. But the two cars would be a S1 Jetta GLi, the Golf GTi engine in a family saloon, but most of all my E30 325i Sport. That was one hell of a car. I had an M6 later, I had a 380SL Mercedes, I even owned an M1 for a short while, but for pure enjoyment that was my favourite. From memory, £17,000 in 1985 and worth every penny.

Ooh, yes, please.

I'm amazed you wrangled 1760 out of a 1558. Collectively we seem to be looking back fondly at those days.

There was one at a Goodwood Breakfast Club in the paddock. I took quite a few pics. I'll post some when I remember how my filing system works.

Sold a twin choke Weber from a Cooper S to a bloke with an early Escort. He asked for his money back when the car didn't run right and his mate told him it was probably jetted wrong. A little knowledge and all that.

Thanks for that smile

I remember my Dad test driving a white one and he really liked it. I thought that they looked proper cool back then. Plus as mentioned they offer great performance for the time for sure.

I bought a nice 2.8i Capri a couple of years ago, a rare rust free example.. I bought it blind, from miles away and I took the train to go and collect it.
The rose tinted spectacles fell off about 10 minutes into the drive home, it's dreadful! I've still got it, I'll probably sell it this year but it's fair to say that nostalgia ain't what it used to be

You’re welcome.

Although it was a bit of a handful in town (very ‘cammy’ and the Webers regularly needed fettling/balancing), it was great on rural Gloucestershire roads. It’s one of the few cars I really regret selling. The engine was allegedly a Vegantune, but I was doubtful as it didn’t feature their cam cover and the build sheet made no mention. I know that boring to 1760 resulted in very thin cylinder walls, but it was a strong engine. It was certainly quicker than the standard TC engine the car had for a while after the crossflow it came with died, so it could well have been a 1760. I can’t remember the name of the engine builder, but he was well known in the area back in the day.

A Sierra Cosworth. Although I wouldn't day they are attainable now . Fortunately bought one 10yrs ago, when I could afford one!
