Anyone remember a chap called Daniel Curnock who ran something called the 80’s Emporium? Used to love his 3000 word descriptions of each car and how he could make changing a dust cap sound like a massive job.
Oddly all trace of his website has disappeared and I can’t find any historic adverts either.

"Car has done 115,000 miles which is low for the year, the services were carried out by a main dealer for the first 3 years and then...."
Or making a song and dance that the one owner, 40k low miles car has a full service history with 6 stamps in the book. But its a 24 year old car so that means a service every 4 years Another is disguising a high mileage car by making the buyer do the maths: "...only done on average a low 7,000 miles per year". Except that it is a 27 year old car so that makes it 189,000 miles.

For those with 5 mins spare, it's well worth reading his "cars for sale" and "about me" areas... strangely therapeutic!

When I first started reading car mags all the big name publications were full of dealers that mentioned Gentlemen, Carriages, Fine , Discerning etc in their adverts .
I also remember one who sold mid range and flakey classics that did very tongue in cheek adverts for his stock . His was one of the sections that were a go to each month along with the famous name writers like LJK Set right and Tony Dron
Maybe this one?I also remember one who sold mid range and flakey classics that did very tongue in cheek adverts for his stock . His was one of the sections that were a go to each month along with the famous name writers like LJK Set right and Tony Dron
I remember him having a couple of a certain Mr J Savilles ex cars especially his Range Rover camper .
Scanning the classifieds at 4.00am (injured leg keeping me awake) I came across a phrase new to me – "Recommissioned by a Gentleman Engineer... bla bla bla..."
I quite like it though. When in future people ask me what I do, that's what I'll say, rather than trying to figure out a credible explanation for what I actually do.
Then for future garage projects I'll buy white cotton overalls to replace the ripped jeans and New Model Army t-shirts, and thus embrace old age.

Translation - Home mechanic / DIYer I reckon lol.‘Got going again somehow’ might be nearer the truth.
Forgotten which dealer as it was many years ago, up for sale a 1967 Lotus Elan fitted with the incredibly collectible and rare CABC “black badge”.
Go figure that one out.
Motor Sport magazine used to feature Rod Leach’s loud and hyperbolic “Nostagia” adverts. John Britten’s modest and self-deprecating adverts were the perfect antidote.

Bob will be sadly missed as he was self-deprecating and often critical of his own cars. The unpompous style was a breath of fresh air compared to the typical flannel quoted on this thread.[/qu
Sad news, i had no idea he had passed away, how long ago ? I tried to buy a nicely modded S.1 E Type from him and well recall the Range Rover camper.

He left us either late last year, or early this year. There was an extensive obit in one of the two Wednesday classic newspapers, can’t remember which but probably both.Apparently he started as a specialist in big old American V8s . Very different from the ”Hon Toby and Zoe Scott- Richmond “ type dealers , he appeared to drift into his business in Solihull as he acquired a variety of old American stuff as a hobby which evolved into a a job, part exchanges were taken, and the rest is (sadly, now) history.Sad news, i had no idea he had passed away, how long ago ? I tried to buy a nicely modded S.1 E Type from him and well recall the Range Rover camper.

Also remarkable is the number of classics for sale reputed to have been maintained by aeronautical engineers. There must be more who service Boeings and Airbus than there were reputed to be dentists and architects cruising around in Saabs.I quite like it though. Talking of classic cars, what are the best sites to look at for car sales, desperatly seeking a MK2 RS (yes who isnt!!) but not seeing anything much on the usuall car sites, just wondering if Im missing out on any gems!!
If you’re on Facebook join the Ford Escort MKII RS2000 group. A few get advertised on there. Hugo Stiglitz said:
