so one week in following the return of HJC.....just how could I neglect it for so long - it's bloody magnificent!

granted it needs work, the paintwork is crazed, the sills ends are frilly, it takes an age to warm up, brakes need an overhaul, but my word it's still sublime to drive.

and the presence it commands on the road.....

this isn't a bargain but it is interesting (well to some of us!)

features an electric steel sunroof - not a Jaguar option I believe?

No not a Jaguar option at the time for the Series1 though talking years ago to an owner with a Webasto variant , he did tell me that Browns Lane would cut the roof if asked to allow a fit by a third party ?? Personally I much prefer the steel to the fabric , they seem to age better in my eyes .

For £1000 it would be a good source of spares but really, nobody is restoring that.

I don't see XJ values going anywhere. The Mark 2 had its day in the sun but these never did - too late now.

Won't be original Jaguar but Golde and a few others did after market ones in the day. A mate worked for Hampshire Police in Basingstoke, their workshop was just opposite the Golde building. They'd collar him occasionally to help start or resolve mechanical issues.
Their main business was Range Rovers but they'd take anything on.

I'm having a mare, went to UAE for work, my son was taken to hospital for 4 days, thankfully ok, Mums back in hospital on the mainland with her pulse down at 46, work is manic and the boat isnt finished, the garden is running rampant.

I need a couple of hours on the Rover, new tank is in, just need to fit the new sender, some fuel, and test run.

The Range Rover replacment engine is close to running.

I'm gonna buy an S1 at some point, but no rush.

I was up for the blue Daimler 2.8 manual at auction next weekend, but I drove a (modern) manual the other day and decided an XJ6 needs to be auto.

Yep, The MK2 was the only Jaguar saloon i recall having it's ££ day! Remember the late 80's and the stupid money MK2's were fetching? Like £60K for an original un restored 3.8 manual and more if you wanted a Vicarage or Beacham one! Don't even go there with a genuine Coombes one! There's still a few dreamers on eBay wanting £40K for a 2.4, It isn't going to happen in 2025, I managed to buy a decent, UK Original 3.8 in 2013 that had spent most of it's life in California for £8250, The XJ S1 as you said never got near price wise, My scabby old 2.8 crab will never fetch any where near the money it needs spending on it ie a decent repaint, Small amount of welding and a going through of the mechanicals, It's saving grace is it's low mileage, Great running gear and a lovely interior with original carpets and door furflex etc and i only paid £575 for the car!

The best of the X350 supercharged variants still have big price tags though nigh on impossible to ascertain what they actually sell for if indeed at all .
On paper at least , a supercharged aluminium 150mph Jaguar makes a convincing case for itself .

That looks lovely, but shame it’s a 2.8 has to be a 4.2 for me
