I hear what you say Bob but surely that's one of the reasons we love classic cars. Modern Euroboxes are OK but they have no character and where would forums like this be if we couldn't share the problems we have in running a classic smile

I think it is all about frame of mind.

I have just returned from 2416 miles through France, Germany & Austria in the DS and had a terrific time.

This morning (-1 degrees C in North Yorkshire) I had to drive the car to the storage facility (10 miles) and it was a bit of a nightmare with icy steamed up windows, other rush hour drivers etc - not particularly enjoyable when you're managing a car on choke for first few miles and people are getting p1ssed off with you as they're late / on the school run etc.

It's not the problems of running a classic. I still bear the scars of having to face angry customers who had bought these new with such problems as massive water leaks into the interior (and I don't mean a little dribble from the roof - these car would be swimming at the slightest sign of rain in Bolsover - I lived in South Yorkshire at the time), cars not starting, cars not managing 100 miles before they broke down, massive electrical failures etc. etc. etc.. Hell we even used to pray the demonstrator would make it through the test drive.

I'm sure there are ex-BL salesmen who feel the same way about the Stag - but I used to love mine.

It is for this reason I could never love a TVR 280. I think the S series fabulous cars - even had an S3 until recently. But a 280??? I would rather eat my own liver sauteed in goat urine.

[quote=Forthright MC]Saw this absolutely mint Esprit on the Bushmead road bridge in Eaton Socon this afternoon -

Questions:

Could the driver of said Lotus get nicked by the filth with this photo? and could said driver plead not guilty as he is in a 1979 motor (before the law came in with the use of mobiles) and could he not say that the photo was taken in 1991 and 'digitally' enhanced given a date of 2011 in the properties IMG?

In 1991 the mobile phone would have been too big to fit in a Lotus!

Doesn't matter. Plod could still try and do him for "not being in proper control of the vehicle"

Even as an RS2000 it will have some people baffled - those too young to know that in the late 70's and early 80's us young 'uns could get cars like this insured. It cost a pretty penny, I had a Capri 3000 XLR @ 18, but it was possible; unlike today.
They were the days indeed.

I learnt to drive in it and took my test in it. Had 2 Cibie spot lamp with "L" plates on the covers.....Should have seen the examiners face.
Still got a nice one in the shed, had it 23 years now within the family, olympic blue with decals and black recaros plus 2 big cibies on a massive bracket!, don't think it will ever be sold.

I did guess so smile I only ever saw one other coupe on the road while I had mine (outside club meets of course), but there can't be many more than a dozen on the road in the UK.
