Not daft for GW or BR(W) diehards: that spectacle plate was massively weighted to act as a counterbalance - therefore its default position was "on" if the cable snapped.

Turning out the loft yesterday we came across this among my wife's photos. She doesn't remember the photo, the date, the event, the venue or the car. However, she's a Newbury gal whose first husband was an American airman based at Greenham. Although they moved all over the world with the USAF, the car is right hand drive and that suggests that the car gymkhana, or whatever it is, could well have been local. Some interesting stuff in the background, too.

Orrrrrr.... you could just do what those fiendish Southern engineers did and have signals that raised to off rolleyes

DickyC . . . that picture is of Beaulieau motor museum (their display area). The building in the background is the restaurant. The best image I can find of it is https://images.cye-group.com/Assets/39078/big.jpg

Of course it is! Why ever didn't I recognise it?

When eventually I turned the picture over, it has 10/84 printed on the back. October 1984? I would have guessed it was the sixties. I know it's not fool proof - it could be a reprint - but it's probable.

Any thoughts on the main car? I reckon it's wearing Borranis.

That looks like the rear of an Isetta in the background.

There's Al Jardine thinking: "I wish they all could be Hillman Californians."

Barris Kustom built twenty five 1966 "Mini Surfers" for Capitol Records, twenty to be given away in Beach Boys related radio station competitions and these five for the Boys.

Ahead of a house move, I found some more car/truck/bike related pics of my fathers.
No date for the VW, just "hire car" written on the back.
The military ones are dated 1959 while posted in Germany.
Street scene I only included as there are cars/trucks over his right shoulder.

She was given that car if I recall but couldn't drive as she didn't have a driving licence!

The 60s was a fabulous decade, if not the best, for so much.

Her flashy boyfriend was hairdresser Justin de Villeneuve, he used his wife's surname!
He also went under the alias of Christian St. Forget for his hairdressing business. The best laugh was his real name was common ol' Nigel Davies. laugh

Here she is at 'the wheel', but she couldn't drive.
I think that is boyfriend Justin de Villeneuve (Nigel Davies!) next to her in that publicity shot. I also reckon that is when the car had been shipped over to here for her in the UK.
Note the tyres, Dunlop SP's!
No Bridgestones or Yokos. But to be fair I think a major Japanese tyre co. Sumi something or other had acquired the rights to Dunlop in Japan in the 60s? Too complicated for me, someone on here will know.

Just found this old pic. Around 1969.

Young lady aside, wink I loved that Corbeau seat - it went in other Imps/cars of mine.
Corbeau still make them to order, but they don't look anywhere near this good and cost a packet, which they didn't back then.

Great composition.

Youve cropped out the best bit! She looks cracking.
Sorry, I missed your replies. I was right cropping it, you didn't take notice of the Corbeau seat!

Anyway, off Corbeau and car topic and just in response to Loose_Cannon.

'She still is!'
(unlike me, but I'm just a lucky bd!)

Here you go, forget the car (and seat) for a mo.

Which one do you reckon she is? Rear shots taken about 1984, so 15 years later. hehe

Years ago, a punter near me bought the lime green Miura with twiggy heritage, and seen often round the village when exotica really was exotic.
Lots of images of the car on Google.

Didn't Mrs Bolan blow up a Muira in the Kings Road? Accelerator pedal and a stuck stiletto heel IIRC.
