My great grandfather receiving an award from the DVLA in Dudley.
According to my mom, he was a chauffeur for the earl of Dudley and had an unblemished driving record.
How accurate this is I'm not sure, I didn't know such an award was ever given out by the DVLA, she says this photo was in the Express & Star news paper in the mid 50's to early 60's.

Anyone care to guess the car? I couldn't tell you, Morris?

Austin Devon ?

My parents heading off on honeymoon in 1954, the car is a Vauxhall Wyvern and I think the aircraft was a Bristol flying out of Lympne in Kent. Note the high security fence!

I think it is G-AIFY. A Bristol Freighter which played a leading role in the film.... 'Man in the Sky.' Didn't Jack Hawkins play the lead?

I have another picture and it is either G-AIFV or G-AIFY

Just noticed that the Wyvern is LHD. Is there a back-story Mike?

Dis it actually a VAUXHALL Wyvern? The badge somehow doesn't look like a Griffin and what's the badge on the left of the grille? Is it an Opel equivalent, if they produced the same cars like they have done since the 70s.

With those trade-mark flutes on the bonnet it's not likely to be badged as anything other than a Vauxhall.

The badge on the left of the grille is an AA badge.

The badge on the right is one of many produced by J R Gaunt of London. They all had the crown at the top and laurel leaves around the perimeter.
In the centre is a crest or insignia which could be anything: Country, County, Army, Navy, Airforce, Individual regiments, Commonwealth Countries, Police forces, sports clubs etc. etc.

A quick scan around suggests that the bonnet badge is correct, although there's another 'V' version - Velox models perhaps?

The badge on the right of the pic........ I'm going to suggest some sort of Masonic emblem.

Good spot, I had not noticed that. I think the car belonged to my grandparents, I will ask my mother if she can remember why it was LHD.

Another picture of the Bristol.

I built the Airfix model of the Bristol Freighter. IIRC a Dinky wouldn't fit inside, but Matchbox cars were fine.

John Lennon's '67 911 'GAN 7E' at home in St.George's Hill, Weybridge (have checked on the DVLA, it doesn't show up)...

Macca's DB6 at home in St.Johns Wood just round the corner from Abbey Road, 29/5/67...

Lennon's second RR Phantom, he lent this one out to various showbiz types and it appeared (albeit briefly) in the film 'Performance' with Mick Jagger lounging in the back...

I wonder what those strange grilles are under the headlights. They don't look very nice.

Yes it's a TV aerial - not sure what the grilles are for, hadn't actually noticed them before.

Another grainy Fabs pic - not particularly good, but here's George arriving home in Esher in '66 with his blacked out Mk1 Radford Cooper S... he got his first speeding ticket in this car which cost him the princely sum of £6...!
