You guys might be able to help me then
I recognise some of the cars in the background , Can you help to fill in the gaps.
The White Ford is a Granada , the Maroon car is an Austin Princess.
The green car is a Vauxhall , not sure which one though.
No idea what the Black car on the right is.
Princess was never badged as an Austin Princess, it was just a PrincessI recognise some of the cars in the background , Can you help to fill in the gaps.

Must admit I did like the 18/22 cars when I was a kid, especially the Wolseley model with the grille light.
Yes, I used to get a lift to school in a rather fetching maroon Wolseley wedge owned by the old boy opposite my home. It seemed wonderfully luxurious compared to my dads Pug 504 at the time, and indeed the grille badge used to fascinate me. iSore said:

They were launched early 1975 as an 1800 or 2200, Austin or Morris plus a Wolseley version. About six months later they were renamed Princess 1800/2200 - no Austin, Morris or Wolseley.Robin Hood said:
I bought a 6 month old ex rental Austin 2200HL auto, NLN 962P, they were the "in thing" at the time. Really comfy cruiser, went to Italy in it.............TWICE!
The Princess is one of those cars that, if Citroen had built it, would be a bonafide classic by now (see: CX etc). Early ones could be a disaster; later ones (Princess 2) were vastly better. We had one around 1980/1, a high mileage 2000HL that had already done 70/80 thousand at 2 years old and was a tough old thing. Astonishing interior space, comfy ride and the 2 litre O Series pulled like a train. Blowing the tyres up from the specified 22 psi to 27 transformed the handling and took the slight queasiness from the ride as well. I can still hear the drop gear whine and the hiss from the power steering. nicanary said:
Hitchin & Letchworth Carnival - anything interesting in the car park?
PS I'm pretty sure the little sports car right at the back next to a Mini is a Sunbeam-Talbot 10hp.
Ah that seems familiar - haven't been there since 10:30 this morning!PS I'm pretty sure the little sports car right at the back next to a Mini is a Sunbeam-Talbot 10hp.
Good Old Days when Eastcheap, Letchworth, was two-way, that car-park was free and Letchworth Urban District Council still existed and occupied the Town Hall (the building on the right) which was built for it.
Can't say I can offer identification of many cars that might be of interest - post 1959 if there's a Mini and I reckon it's a Singer Gazelle to that Mini's left in the back row and if that's not a Sunbeam-Talbot 10 to the right of the Mini I'd bid Singer 4A (or later) roadster.

Its incredible to think most new cars back then only lasted 12 years before being scrapped due to rust
This article is from 2009 so it's not bang up to date:https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2009/aug/1...
But it claims the average scrappage age for a car in the UK then was 13.2 years
