Love that photo. And one for the "classics dwarfed by moderns" when you see the Renault 5 city car making the executive Rover P6 look small...]

And the P6 seems everywhere in the old photos. far more then Triumph etc versions. Did they make that many? Did they last far longer then others??
Around 327,000 P6s were built between 1963 and 77, the Triumph 2000s were built in the same timeframe but I'm not sure of the number. Perhaps one of the reasons for the good survival rate of P6s is their base unit and bolt on exterior panel style construction, making damage repairs much easier and more cost effective than repairing a welded monococque. In all there are seventeen bolt on panels on the P6.

That Esprit is fantastic - I was watching an early episode of Minder last night where Carl Howman's character drives a similar one in bright yellow, it looked the business.

For some reason just about every Lotus I see from that era has a Norfolk registration. Is there a reason? Did Lotus arrange for all new deliveries to be registered through themselves?

Vulgar modern Beetle in that one. Why, it's got tombstone rear lights and Europa bumpers.... they'll be building them with those newfangled MacPherson struts next rolleyes

Is that some kind of special Renault 5 in front of the red Beetle on the left? Seems to have a bit of a roof spoiler.

My 1989 1.9 with my mate's Astra GTE behind on the road - April 1990

On the left, a Stag I had for about two years - 1986-88 ... bag o' ste - on the right - another one I saw locally ... now green.

My Uncle George with one of many Jags he owned in the 50s and early 60s ...

A '65 Mustang coupe - one a K plate - so imported in 1971/72. Taken at Biggin Hill, Kent in the early 70s.

Some great photos from the Colin Picket flickr set, this ones interesting:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/aceanorak/8260306179...

I spy a Jag XK120, Triumph TR2 or TR3, possibly a Morgan, an early Spitfire, and a few Midgets amongst the regular motors of the day.

Green Mini with a white roof - if the date is right it could be a very early 997 Cooper or an 850 Super.

Jaguar Mk V in the front row, but that Farina Cambridge/Oxford is a really strange colour for that period. Lime green may be common enough these days, but back then it must have seemed outlandish.

Further in, at the front of the second batch, is that a Simca Versailles?

Spotted the Friary Cresta and the Riley 1.5 next to the Morgan. But what about the older design on the other side of the Riley?

Then on the Mustang pic...... Is the aircraft a Twin Comanche or an Apache?

Thanks rateone. I thought the nose wasn't round enough for an Apache and not pointy enough for a Comanche. Perhaps the softer fin shape is the decider.

Couple of rare items in those pics, especially the Ford Taunus - which was a rare sight in the UK.
I spy a F-Type Victor as well in the 1st pic.

Sights that that were all too common on old bomb sites and waste ground in most towns back in the day..........he says feeling a little old frown

yes . .and the piles of stuff .... the oily puddles... smile...... .there will probably be an evil dog somewhere too...

In the second picture, I like the way the proprietor has taken the tin snips to the back of his Thames van to convert it into the handy pick-up version...
