Bought this little Volkswagen this week, unseen in Portugal. 1958 Beetle 1200 in Beryl Green. It's currently in transport on the way back to the UK.

Yup, originally US/African spec, exported to Mozambique. Imported to Portugal in 1978. One family owned from new...

Was such a find, I couldn't resist her.

Gave mine a wash the other day, Chevy hadn’t been out since September due to the crappy winter.

I'd concur - Mum had one back when they were still relatively new, a red 1994 SL320 with cream leather.

Was one of the first cars I drove post driving test when I took Mum to test drive it in my Vauxhall Corsa (with P-Plates), and the dealer handed a 17-year old me the keys biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

She finally arrived a couple weeks back...I'm a yank who moved to the UK last year...British wife agreed it was more cost effective to ship my car over instead of storing it stateside....

Anyone around the north Oxfordshire area that knows of good car meets or clubs I'd like to get out as the weather's warming up.

The Third Thursday event has started for 2018 at the Norman Knight in Whichford.

Too right! That’s why it’s important to not go looking in the first instance. biggrin Looks superb.

Don't blame you, that's bloody gorgeous! But when she arrives, give that A-pillar bottom a good poke, looks a bit bubbly. I've just had to replace mine, an OK job with repro panels, but better if you get Hooky's.

Very nice!

Would you mind me asking where/how you look for cars in Portugal?

I'm hoping to go on some adventures looking for interesting cars to buy, and Portugal would certainly be on the list of places to go!

This one actually appeared on carandclassic.co.uk

I certainly wasn't looking for cars to buy, being pretty much 'full'. I was up in Putney talking to a mate about an R107 SL, sat in the sun on a pub roof terrace enjoying a lovely pint of London IPA, when I opened the phone and loaded up the C&C website, there was the beetle, on the homepage.

That is undeniably lovely but surely it's a lot later than a '58? I don't think those rear lights came in till the early 1960s, and they certainly still used "pope's nose" numberplate lights in the 50s

It's 60 years old - if it still had everything it had when it left Wolfsburg I'd be amazed. Rear end is the only bit that isn't right, the screen is correct, but suspect it was either pranged and repaired with later parts, or even simply 'updated' at some point to make it look newer.
