as i said before the right to own land is a trust, and if you allow your property to fall into abandonment or dont both checking on it then your have not honoured that trust.

Supposing there are circumstances where someone dies and there are no next of kin, or simply abandons a house, should it just stand empty for ever? If they make all reasonable attempts to contact the owner and can't, and no one is in the house for years on end, why shouldn't someone move in?

Anyway, it won't stand empty for ever. The local council will probably grab it for one of their stupid schemes and move a bunch of real theiving dossers in there who will be a lot worse than someone who actually wants to live there long term and own the property themselves.

its hardly thieving.
it takes a minimum of 10 years before an application can be made.

if someone allows their property to be invaded and lived in/used by someone else for 10 years without bothering to do anything about it then imo they deserve to lose it.
