What ARE those things? I noticed a load today. They lit up! So I thought that was fun, and had a terrific time charging along to make them do it again and again.

Until about 1 year ago, I never realised that the logo represented two train tracks. I saw it virtually every day, but it never "clicked". Same with the National Lottery (crossed fingers) logo, one day I looked at it and suddenly realised that it was also a smiling face.

Shows how much attention I paywobble
Yep, and the arrow details denote the "Up" and "Down" directions of travel.
General practice used to be that lines from London were referred to as the Down line, with lines to London referred to as the Up line, and trains pass on the left, which is how the logo is derived.

I wonder when it'll get replaced with something else. They're saying that gatwick might get refurbed, for the olympics, so it might not be long now.

Not quite. Gramps on my mum's side drove trains (starting with proper ones powered by coal and water) for over fifty years on the Southern Railway, then British Railways then BR.

i was led to beleive that it was based on the graph sports people can see to see their performance follow as they start to train or something.
