This is where unsold new cars are going. I lost count at 16,983 and that was just the silver ones.

I was up there a few weeks ago picking up some hired tractor units and that runway was empty!

Old pic that is.

very similar.... and has been like that more or less since it closed as an operational base..

Shame really, I used to love gliding past Upper Heyford, going round their extended airspace, and watching the F111s zoom underneath smile

Good fun flying competitions out of Bicester too, and watching their activities while you waited for the startline to open smile

You can also see the same thing at Chipping Warden, to some extent Bruntingthorpe, and probably most large, 'disused' airfields up and down the country.

Best let Motorsport Events know, they've been holding Academy Days there for the last few years - can't remember seeing any cars on that runway last time I was there though......

Can I just confirm this - you counted nearly 17,000 cars? Have you nothing better to do?

Wait a minute, I thought The Pie & Piston was an OCD self-indulgence forum. Don't tell me people submit 10,000 plus entries on here if they've got something better to do!

Sat at the end of that runway a few times manning a Rapier kit, damn those F-111's were noisy.

Which are you calling row one? I thought there were 47, but that's probably row 108 from your perspective.

There used to be a car dump next to the A1 at Wyboston lakes for years. If you look on GE you can still see the outline of the cars left.

Apparently there were still unregistered Sierras and Granada Scorpios there up until 2001. See below:
