Anything that can’t be recycled or is hazardous usually goes in the “ tout venant “ skip.

We also received the funds from the Notaire within 48 hours, better than expected!

This was the house sold, we'd just arrived for a week of detritus shifting!

And boy did we move some, about ten loads like this! smile

We don't have a 'tip' near us, just a dechetterie that only recycles - so where did you take it all to?
As others have said, the French equivalent of 'the tip' is a lot more user friendly than my local one here in the U.K. where I even need a permit for the trailer. We just made sure everything went into the correct bins as marked and no trouble at all, I had a residency card ready to produce but was never asked.

I did notice that the French can reverse a trailer, nothing like as much fun as watching the Brits try it here in Blighty!

Our dechetterie in Charroux is great. Guys are helpful and never get shouted at or questioned.

I always thank them after I have unloaded.

100% better than the UK

That's interesting as next week I am off to start emptying our house and plan to take a lot to the dechetterie.

First task is to find a company that I can hire a van from in the UK to drive to France, a lot harder than first thought it seems!
Hire one from Intermarche in le Lude?

OT... @ WyrleyD....are you from there?

I found that Hertz do it, quoted a reasonable price too - you need to phone the central number thats on their website.

I'm guessing he wants to bring some stuff back to England as well as get rid of rubbish ?
Europcar will hire you a van to take abroad but you have to speak to an area manager to ok it , the office staff aren't happy doing it as I found out ! they promised me one for my move then let me down at the last moment , I complained to head office and the area manager compensated me for the cock up and told me to phone him direct if I ever needed a van to take abroad again .

I'll correct myself , it was Enterprise not europcar , though I rang europcar up after I was let down and they were ok taking the van abroad , but given a couple of hours notice they didn't have anything available.
It does work out better to sell or donate your surplus from down there , most of the little bit I brought back is in our loft !

Thank you to the lovely email from a PH'er offering assistance! I have managed to get a van from Addhire local. Reasonable price for a week, high mileage allowance (most where only 200miles a day so over the timescale meant it wouldn't be enough)

Collect it Monday and Wednesday head over - just need to book the tunnel now but no rush for that.

Sorry, yes originally from the UK ( up to 21 then Botswana, Swaziland, Kenya for 8 years, then back to UK for a spell until retirement then off to France). My mums house is in Wyrley Dell and the user name is derived from that.

As you can see, our dechetterie does not take 'general waste': http://lachartresurleloir.fr/dechetterie-et-ordure...

We do have a large wheelie bin in the valley that we can load in to (only found out last year that it's for the commune!), but that really isn't that easy.

Think we'll have a bonfire!!

€200 fine in ours if you're caught burning rubbish. Our neighbour got caught out the summer before last. They also send the SPs to put it out, who then charge you for their time

No fires allowed where we are either. Middle of the countryside and a mountain of garden clippings/cuttings to dispose of too, the dechet will take it but lord knows how many trips it will be with the trailer - probably 5 or 6 at least...

i am not so sure it is a blanket ban

http://www.risque-incendie.com/lemploi-du-feu/inci...

L’incinération de petits volumes, moins de 2 m3 apparents, est dispensée de déclaration préalable en mairie, mais doit respecter les autres consignes énumérées précédemment.

you just need to let them know if you are burning up to 20 cubic meters worth of vegetation but under 2 cubic meters you just need to follow the seemingly over cautious rules

Found that page interesting but it’s for your department
Locally the restriction is April to September inclusive but it’s often extended into October and November here in the Sarthe. We are close to the woods so we have more restrictions from the Marie, and we are only allowed 8 visits to the dechetterie in our taxes, any more and we have to pay per visit.
Big fire at Xmas to catch up rest of the year we have a big pile of brush waiting for the right conditions
