Looking to book the new anantara hotel in Jebel akhdar for mid may. Seems very popular around those dates but Does anyone know what the weather is likely to be relative to Dubai? I expect we'll be hitting low to mid 40s by then but with the altitude and generally cooler Oman climate I hope/expect temps to be considerably lower. Today it's showing a high of 27 to Dubai's 37, would a 10deg difference hold?

Any budding Michael fishes please let me know!

Hi,

It is supposed to be 10-15 degrees cooler. We went up Jebel Shams in Feb, it was 28 degrees in Wadi Ghul (bottom), then drove to top, 40mins later and its 16 degrees. All taken from the car on board temp. I think Jebel Shams and Jebel Akdtar are about the same height and next to each other, so should be comparable.

At night, it was bloody cold!!, went down to 4 degrees

I think you can count on a minimum of 10 degrees lower, possibly a bit more. I was planning on going camping in June, to check if the difference remained the same in summer. Maybe you will get to advise us first? :-)

Cool (budumtish), thanks.

I've camped on top of Jebel shams, it's a world away from tourist Dubai and all the better for it.

Will be getting my Oman explorer guide out this evening and planning a route.

I understand that road up to Jebel Akdar is 4x4s only (even though all tarmac), there is check point where they stop 2WD, not a concern for you I am sure.

Pics of our trip are on my cayenne FB page. www.facebook.com/CayenneGTSoffroad. Its a where I put car pics with out boring the family!

I'm pretty sure I have been on that road about 4yrs ago way before the hotel was built. It did strike me then as being a strange place to put a road as I approached it from the balat sayt side after 2 days getting semi lost in the wadi network
