Radio 1 Newsbeat this afternoon (12.45pm I think), are making headline news about Hammond being forced off track, they want to hear from any witnesses.

You would think they could ask TG direct as they are the same company, besides I didn't think the crash was that big?

Maybe they should speak to the guys at Chad who had to rebuild the Mosler, I didnt see it personally but I did hear that it was a little bit(read lot) of a mess, took about 40 mins to fix.

I heard he hit one of the Moslers.
Did see a reasonable dent in the Top Gear BMW but it didn't look bad.

I was listening to the team radio at the time and from Richards description it sounded although he moved to avoid a faster car on one side only to drive into the path of the Chad Mosler on the other. He was really mortified thinking he'd put the car out of the race.

Must be a slow day at the Beeb, was reading Autie's website only to see the sensationalist Entertainment headline "Top Gear host has another crash" imagine my amazement to find half a page describing his 'off' and then half a page going back over the dragster incident.

Still, even that is a million times more accurate than the Sun's reporting on it..

Am waiting for the Sunday Sport version where aliens were involved.

Anyway, how does the old adage about publicity go?

Whatever he was bricking it before he got in the car for night qualifying - not surprising after Elvington maybe?

I think it is something you always hear about celebs, someone reports they behave a certain way and someone else completely differently. I've heard mixed reports about Clarkson from he was the nicest man they've ever met to he was kicking small children out of the way to get to where he was going. Must be rough living in a goldfish bowl.

Personally, I think the writeup on TopGears own website is a disgrace...

to name and blame without a shed of evedence to back up the claim is very bad news IMHO.....

On my 2 hrs stint on Sunday morning i lapped the Top Gear Car 3 times, Hammond has no idea how to drive, he displayed the worst driving skills i have ever seen on a track day never mind in a race. It almost seemed like he wanted to take me out!
I just hope he managed to see my gestures to him.

I appreciate that it was a good PR excercise for James and his crew but please tell them they are not welcome next year, there are enough serious racers around!

Hope someone will tell Hammond to stick to TV Presenting cos he aint got a clue how do drive!

Now come on thats a bit harsh.

For sure Hammond displayed standard driving naivety but then frankly so did allot of people in the race some in significantly faster cars, but lets face it, he and his team were thrown into the deapest end of a very deep swimming pool with a pair of undersized speedos. Thats not his fault. Nor is it the teams. TV production land is a very different place to the world we actually live in.

The only issue is simply that complete novices are aloud to race in the 24hr at all.

I can't see any naming and blaming there though? It might be my eyesight and I think you are right that there WAS some there but it seems to have gone?
